Random question, but who are the 10 biggest names in indie wrestling now, no counting former WWE/AEW/Whatever guys?
It used to be I could look at a super indie card and I’d know most of the talent, but I’m pretty out of the loop on a lot of this stuff now.

Given where Impact is and the turnover in NXT, if they never made the main roster in WWE or AEW you can probably count them. Otherwise if we just counted pure freelancers we’d probably have to dig almost to the point of irrelevancy. Although I’d be curious about a top 10 for that too. It used to be you could just look at the most recent PWG card and get a pretty good idea of who the top indie stars/freelancers were. Before ROH started having contracts pretty much all the indie guys were freelancers whose closest thing to a parent company was a non-televised indie. But let’s breakdown the most recent PWG card now (PWG Battle Of Los Angeles 2023 - Night 2) by who has a major parent company and who is a pure freelancer. Angelo Parker: AEW Anna Jay: AEW Aramis: MLW Bandido: AEW Black Taurus: Impact Bryan Keith: FREELANCER Chris Jericho: AEW Daniel Garcia: AEW Evil Uno: AEW Jake Hagar: AEW Jonathan Gresham: Impact Jordynne Grace: Impact Kevin Blackwood: FREELANCER Komander: FREELANCER Konosuke Takeshita: AEW Latigo: FREELANCER Masha Slamovich: Impact Matt Menard: AEW Michael Oku: FREELANCER Mike Bailey: Impact Rey Horus: FREELANCER Sammy Guevara: AEW SB KENTo: Dragongate Shun Skywalker: Dragongate Tay Melo: AEW Titus Alexander: FREELANCER Only 7 out of 26 are freelancers. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing because it’s great for the wrestlers as long as the parent company is treating them well. But it certainly would make it tougher if we had to disqualify everyone with a parent company.

Mike Bailey might be signed to impact but he wrestles the majority of his matches in various indies.
Would be hard to put anyone else top of my list.
Others are more clearly predominantly with a major company (eg Vikingo).
Suppose there's others in more of a grey area.

Speedball Mike Bailey Nick Gage Effy Allie Katch Masha Slamovich Jordynne Grace Jonathan Gresham Killer Kelly I’m sure there’s more or others. Then there’s a second tier of future stars that are on the cusp

Myself I had them on that future stars list. yeah i was trying to stick to freelancers i consider them the biggest names because they are literally everywhere especially Mathers, Price, and Slamovich there’s a reason why Mathers is called Mr. IWTV. i initially had Nick Wayne but took him off since he’s technically signed to AEW

Sometimes a disagreement has the silver lining of bringing a potential business partner to the table. Back in 1990 Mike Vraney was straight up bootlegging old exploitation movies on VHS. Producer David F. Friedman called him up to ask what was going on. The two went onto have a working relationship that lasted two decades and was responsible for preserving a bunch of films that may have otherwise been lost to time by now.

So happy to see how a pile of the people I was watching 2 years ago when Limitless had their weekly show are now becoming leaders of the indie scene.
Like B3cca. Saw her as Basic Becca on Limitless The Road. Got her onto the podcast a few days later. Andd now she is one of the best woman wrestlers on the indies.
Or Alec Price. Saw him on The Road, interviewed him. AHere he is working all over. And working on getting him down to MS/LA/AL soon.
Coming up this Saturday is the now SOLD OUT Cassidy Riley retirement show. West Monroe LA,Cassidy is facing Chase Stevens. Plus a pile of other great matches.
And this won't mean much to many here, but so glad the MS comission isn't near as strict as the LA one. Learned over the past 5 years just all the restrictions and limits LA places on pretty much any indie that runs in the state. But groups like Impact/ROH/AEW/WWE get to brake the rules that would cost an indie their promoters license.
6 years ago two promoters in LA tried to fight this. Took it to court. Lost and the LA comission canceled both their promoters licenses. So one group moved from Houma LA.Where for close to 7 years they had had monthly sell out or almost sell out cards with no issues. This group Elite moved to Florida.
The other promoter ended up just going back to managing in the indies.
For example if an indie runs a show and sells more than 400 tickets they then have to give a percentage of the gate to the comission. They have to have 2 EMTs and an ambulance there. They have to have 4 off duty cops as security.
But if say Wildkat draws 500 to a event comission doesnt make them pay the percentage of the gate and other things.
MS all the comission does is keeps a file on everyone that has a license to wrestle in the state. And once a year you gotta go have blood work done to show you have nothing that can be caught if you get busted open in the ring.
In my 14 years now of going to shows in MS I have seen the comission at events 1 time. And for years Pro Wrestling EGO ran events across the street from the comission's office.

Echoing your sentiments about B3CCA and Alec Price. I first saw Becca right after Basic Becca and when she and Alec were the Prize City Hooligans. She’s nailed her character and it’s amazing she’s only been wrestling 3 years. Price has turned into a workhorse. His New Years Wrestival/GCW weekend was amazing (10 matches in a span of 4 days for numerous promotions in MA and NJ) including a super fun Fans Bring the Weapons match against B3CCA. It’s so cool seeing both of them evolve from the New England indies to the bigger promotions. Man the athletic commission drama sounds a lot like NY.

LA is known for just being corrupt on a government lvel. And their comission is pretty bad.
Can't do a pile driver in LA,unless you are WWe/AEW/Impact/ROh or Wildkat.
