Gotta say, WB ruining Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League by turning it into a "Games as a service" game doesn't instill a lot of hope that MK12 won't be a microtransaction wasteland of a game. I'm sure they'll throw them in, but MK11 sold REALLY well, like basically leagues better than any fighting game other than Smash, if I recall. So, I am less worried about that than I otherwise would be. Still, it's obvious WB is desperate for cash, so we'll see how it goes.

WB has always been one of the worst offenders with live services and microtransactions, especially on game launches. I almost always wait a year or two for them to inevitably roll it back and make their games playable, just like they did with Middle Earth: Shadow of War and MK11.

I haven't played it, but just watching the story of MK 11 I both got why some people were disappointed (felt like there was much more that could be done with the world they'd built in 9 and 10) but also didn't think it was as bad as some were trying to make it out to be.
Then again, I might just be enormously biased because as long as Cary Tagawa is Shang Tsung, all is right in the world...and I absolutely marked out that the DLC ending that brought the entire MK universe full circle was Liu Kang and Shang Tsung facing off with literally everything on the line, just felt right.

NetherRealm rulers Liu Kang, Kitana and Kung Lao [as revenants] are the big bad guys fighting the new EarthRealm clan of good guys led by Hanzo and Sub-Zero for control of the Soul Chamber.
Story finds a way to save the souls of the Shaolin and Edenias at the climax with the reveal of a huge NEW end boss from realm we've never seen before. Summoned by Kano for some reason.
No Shang Tsung or Shao Khan appearances at all! [Except maybe as playable DLC characters] No time travel!
Easy. That's your pitch, Ed!

The thing that always annoyed me the most about 11 was that... they already had a perfectly good story set up. Unlike pretty much every other game in the franchise, the arcade endings for each character connected to each other. For example, Erron Black's ending shows him shooting Jax, Jax's ending ends with him being shot, and Sonya's ending has her wake up from a nightmare to the news that Jax was killed. They put all this effort into merging the endings together, just to throw it all out for time travel.
Mortal Kombat 11 should have been about Raiden invading Outworld and Kotal Kahn being forced to invoke the Mortal Kombat tournament to protect his realm, as an inversion of Shao Kahn's invasion. The plot would center around the conflicts that arise among the good-aligned characters from having to decide if they want to stand with their home realm, despite their Protector God clearly becoming a despotic maniac, or defend the realm that has spent 500 years trying to conquer them, but is clearly the victim in this conflict. Throw in characters being on different sides than usual (Reptile working for Earthrealm since that's where his people are originally from, Bo'Rai Cho training the Outworld fighters the way he trained Liu Kang, etc.), add Netherrealm Rulers Liu Kang and Kitana and an advancing horde of Hive Mind Mileenas, and you've got a plot.
Hell, you could have Kotal Kahn revive Onaga as a last resort and set up the Dragon King as the big bad of 12, and since Cassie accidentally kills Shujinko in her ending, believing him to be Shang Tsung, the Kombat Kids now have to be the ones to round up the Kamidogu and re-seal Onaga. That then gives you a valid reason to do Orderrealm and Chaosrealm better.

Oh I know but that is what made it crazier for me Like everyone is saying he will betray them but we will betray him first only for circumstances to still work in his favor. Liu Kang was more arrogant than smart because he knew what would happen but figured he had abilities to stop him. Sindel and Shao Khan looked like small fry in comparison because their scheming didn't last as long as they thought it would

Hopefully the characters are better this time around.
Did we really need Shao Kahn's taxman when they could've used Smoke or Ermac?

I liked Cetrion and Kronika was an interesting final boss, but that was about it for the outright newbies of MK11. Geras and Kollector were kinda corny.

Do have to wonder just what kind of hellish crunch is going on with this game, seeing as MK11 already was a nightmare to work on and at best from when the MK11 DLC come out they've only been working on it for two and a half years, the early stages of which would've been during the height of the pandemic. If it's coming out this year I have to imagine it's either been an utter nightmare to work on or it's recycling a shitload of assets.

Weren't we supposed to get Cyrax and Sektor in MK11, too? Like they had unique movesets and character models in the story mode. I'm guessing all they really needed to get was Fatalities and more fleshing out of what was already there. But then pandemic happened.

Kind of hard to say, since they had plenty of time to get them in before that really happened and their movesets were recycled from Triborg in MKX. Though Boon did specifically say there wouldn't be any more story-only fights after everyone hated that in MKX yet we wound up with them anyway so...

So, sounds like we're getting another reboot.
Also rumors that Peacemaker and Homelander will be DLC

I don't think reboot is quite the right word. Since Liu Kang still is a God and has control of Kronika's Hourglass.

Well considering "Multiverse" has been a hot thing for a minute now I expect we will be delving a bit into that here especially with Liu still having controll of the hourglass.
And that we would play role reversal in the story....Liu and EarthRealm are villans with Outworld playing the heroes this time around.

Either way this is going to be a definite wait-for-a-sale game for me. WB games always quickly plummet in price and I don't really have any trust in them actually functioning at launch because MK11 certainly didn't.

So, a lot of the MK11 endings pretty much showed that even altering timelines didn't change most things from playing out, so I'd imagine the real villain is like a Titan who is God of Creation or something along those lines.
