Before he passed my Chihuahua Max was the sweetest/most chill dog you ever met. His tongue hung out due to having no teeth so he had a constant derp face, and would let anyone hold him without much care. Fly high little buddy. That sounds like my dog Peaches. She would goto anyone. Just wanted to be played with and loved on. Many a times she would be outside when the mail man pulled up and she would go jump into his vehicle. In the 15 1/2 years I had Peaches she only acted aggressive towards one person. And she might have been sensing I didn't like the person.

I’m sorry, but I can’t agree with this. The two small dogs I’ve had in the last 15 years (one passed away a few years ago now) have gotten me through more hard times than they’ll ever know. I’d run through a f***ing brick wall for them.

I had a shitzu/poodle mix named Ace for 13 years. He passed away last June. Was an absolute sweetheart to me but he could be a grump at times. He eventually warmed up to folks more and more but he could be defensive as heck. Despite all that, i have missed him so much since his passing.

I was going to make a joke about better alternative ideas for pets. I thought of maybe a chinchilla and I realized I had this conversation with my brothers and sister in law a few days ago. I learned chinchillas don't take baths but instead need a little bed of ash or dust to roll around in. Just thought that was weird. They are still awfully cute though.

I have a cocker spaniel, small enough to sit on my lap but big enough to actually bark instead of yapping.

My mom has three mini schnauzers, Cagney, Lacey, and Angel-who is anything but. The cat, Rex, is their favorite toy; they sit at one end of the room staring at him and he starts backing away, he knows what’s coming. They have figured out all the ways to get a rise out of him.

I'm not a fan of small dogs but that's just personal preference. Growing up I had a Lab/Rottweiler named Bull who was the kindest most loving dog you'd ever meet. He was so patient with children, even when they were doing stuff that rightfully he should have bit them for.
My sister had a dog roughly that size (not sure of the breed) named Cujo. He thought he was a lap dog and was another that was just full of love and joy.
Meanwhile, my friend's dog (I forget the breed but it was small) was quite frustrating and constantly trying to hump my leg.

Gotten me through so much shit over the years, but I always joke that Archer is like dealing with a hyperactive 7 year old kid, and Gizmo is like dealing with a teenager. Pure attitude haha.

All dogs are awesome.
The issue is that you make it live with a cat.

At least the one my family had when I was growing up. I named that poor f***er “chipanddale” after the cartoon but I’m pretty sure it came off as chippendale to everyone else - __ - ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

My mom had a Scottish Terrier. He used to belong to her boss until a burglar shot him in the head, blinding him. The owner could not take care of such a dog, so my mom took him in.
The meanest thing to do to him? Move the furniture around. Even being blind he still raced around the house. That was fine as long as the furniture was in its place. Moving an ottoman meant the dog was going to run headlong into said ottoman.
The nicest thing to do for the dog? Grab a squeaky toy and play fetch with him. He loved that.
Edit: I was fond of that dog and I’m a cat person. Having said that, we serially have Sphinx cats, which may be well known for being a hairless breed but should also be known for exhibiting a lot of dog-like behavioral traits. They’re very social with virtually all humans and even wag their tails based on their mood.

I like animals, but I'm done with having pets for a long time. We put our last cat down around 2 years ago.
Done with the expense, done with the extra work, done with the inevitable heartbreak at the end.
The only downside to not having a cat anymore, is that now I actually smell when other people do have cats.
