Why won't they bring back Googie? Or Sadie Mae? Too much connection to Scrappy. Flim-flam they got away with because he was worse. I still say that TJP looks like grown-up Flim-Flam.

Enough sexy Velma! It's time for SUPER Sexy Velma. I mean, there was Linda Cardellini in a red catsuit in one of the live action Scooby movies. Oh right! There was that! I mean, she looked pretty nice throughout the series, but that’s because it’s hard not to have her look good. I’m glad you mentioned a good example…….. What does it say about me when thinking of a sexy Velma I went straight to the Velma in the porn parody film instead of Linda? I don’t even watch that much porn.

Velma seems like an example of a script HBOMAX liked, but didn’t think was strong enough to succeed on its in, so they shoehorned in an IP and brought in a well known actress they hoped would appeal to audiences. Overall, it failed miserably because the original IP didn’t fit with the show, and the actress brought in to boost appeal hadn’t been big in years (and has her own questionable past). I’ve always felt this is what HBO did with their Watchmen fanfic from a few years ago. Velma was one of the shows I though would’ve been axed after the HBO and Discovery merger, but I’m thinking it was completed and Mindy Kailing had a tight contract that left no option other than to air the show. My reasoning for thinking this is HBOMAX had two, mostly complete Scooby Doo films, but they were cut to save money. If that is the case that HBO had to air the show because they had no other choice, they’ve cost themselves a lot of money as the Scooby Doo brand has been messed up badly by this failure. Which would be a reasonable assumption had the show been cancelled after the first season. Instead they've renewed it for a second, citing the strong viewership. It might be a critical failure and alienated longtime Scooby-Doo fans, but evidently somebody is watching it.

We should post pics. Ya know, to have a frame of reference for what we're protesting against.
Lots and lots of pics.

I mean, sexy Velma peaked in 2002. ![](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/28/65/84/286584a775b6a3f31a7f405f5718ffeb--scooby-doo-movie-velma-dinkley.jpg) Also, if you can track it down, the cast commentary from that movie is a delightful listen. It sounds like they all had a ton of fun making the movie, even SMG, who somehow commuted from Australia to Los Angeles on her days off to film Buffy and didn't die of exhaustion.

Which would be a reasonable assumption had the show been cancelled after the first season. Instead they've renewed it for a second, citing the strong viewership. It might be a critical failure and alienated longtime Scooby-Doo fans, but evidently somebody is watching it. HBO Max got to basically have their cake and eat it too on this. They refused to allow Scooby's presence, and thus, this is pretty easy for them to disregard whenever the inevitable next cartoon's out, and they still got the eyes on their show, even if it's weak material. Yes, longtime fans weren't happy, myself included really, but they also know that buying our forgiveness back is pretty easy. "Oh hey, guys, a new Ghoul School? Or, a show following the Hex Girls?" They've got some pretty easy stuff to whip out if they'd like to. Maybe something gimmicky like "Scooby Doo meets Rob Zombie, isn't this wacky?" or a special with Elvira. I could come up with a million of these. I mean, I don't think they should, but they could whip out a Stranger Things mixed with A Pup Named Scooby Doo "here's how the gang all met" show with minimal effort, and that, too, would probably be received to an extent. It's not hard to see why Scooby Doo and Ninja Turtles both get tons of adaptations, they're like the easiest thing in the world to come up with twists to the formula with. So, with that all in mind, Velma was a low-risk venture that paid off, even if I kind of wished this sort of "Half-assed Venture Bros" mediocrity wouldn't be rewarded. EDIT: Heck, apparently, there are Wendy's kids meal toys of Scooby Doo at the moment with no interruption. twitter.com/damnyouwillis/status/1630921527817322497A rare Warner Brothers Discovery lucrative decision, I guess.

I agree. What kind of weirdo would find a character from a children's cartoon sexy anyway?
