Plus remember new gaming systems being $200 and that was too much!

The only therapy I needed with regards to the Super Nintendo was that I rapidly became addicted to Super Mario World.

Your man showed he doesn’t have the F-Zero mad skillz of a 9-10 year old.

I was right in the age group where I remember it coming out and being so nervous to ask my parents for one because 200 dollars was like a million dollars in my mind…and I had an NES already and this was the first time I was confronted by a new generation of anything.
They were just like…yeah ok…let’s go to the store.

I remember getting a SNES for my fifth birthday, after first playing Super Mario World (which was my first game ever) on someone else's a few months prior. Not the most fortunate timing seeing as I was bore in December 1990 and thus under a year later the N64 came out but hey, still played plenty of SNES games before I eventually got one of those (which was Christmas 1997) so grew to love the console in that time despite the late start with it.

Something that's worth noting is that this was somewhat uncharted territory for big home consoles in North America. Many of the various Atari consoles tended to be backwards compatible, the Colecovision could eventually outright play Atari titles, and Genesis could play Master System games with a converter (though that was a moot point given the latter's obscurity in the region). Nintendo dominating the gaming space for so long and then releasing a new console that couldn't play NES titles was a bit of rude awakening to an audience that wasn't use to that. What's funny is that Nintendo had planned to make the SNES backwards compatible but took it out to keep the cost of the console down (which obviously only did so much to calm the rancor of certain parents).

If they made the SNES backwards compatible, there would be no need to make an NES top loader which was much better at getting games to work properly.

I kind of wish we did get backgrounds compatibility in perpetuity just for how utterly absurd it'd be trying to fix NES, SNES, N64, GBA, and 3DS cartridge slots plus a disc drive on the Switch.

Hey, don’t forget about the GREATEST NES CONSOLES EVER MADE…the Virtual Boy and the Wii U. After all, it’s not like they were utter failures. It’s not like they blew up in Nintendo’s face. Oh wait!

By the time the SNES hit US shelves I was working. Looked at it's line up. Already had a Genesis, and didn't bother getting a SNES until 1995. And that was just to play maybe 10 games.
That 200 bucks for SNES on release day I could tkae and go get 4 new Genesis games or maybe up to 6 older ones.

Why does the reporter in the video have a hairstyle just like Rogue from the X-Men?

It's funny you say that. I remember when I first found staf road I was positive I'd get in trouble for lying when I told her I beat the game but both my parents seemed to have some pride. My dad being the most competitive person I've ever met, though he would've said thats me. He had to beat lost levels when we got mario all stars from the mail in thing they did

Why does the reporter in the video have a hairstyle just like Rogue from the X-Men? 80s hairstyle was still a thing up until 93.

An inflation calculator tells me $200 in 1991 is equivalent to about $440 in 2023. How much do consoles go for nowadays?

My dad bought a hot SNES like a week after it launched, so I basically had an SNES from day one.
