I’m never going to respect him taking about “protecting the business” when the dude was all over the place with Vince when he demanded to stop being regulated by state sports commissions because it’s scripted entertainment. Get bent dude.

Get bent dude. Vince went before NJ state regulators to tell them what’s up in 1989, before Taker was even there. The New York Times wrote an article about it. Linda went before state regulators in PA in 1987 to say the same.

"(Today's wrestlers) don't understand the concept of protecting their character" says man who took every interview he could out of character the very second he was allowed to.
Speaking of which, I gave someone a hug yesterday, not protecting my reputation as a British person.

Speaking of which, I gave someone a hug yesterday, not protecting my reputation as a British person. I don’t think that’s hypocritical. Now that he’s no longer wrestling, he’s willing to do interviews as himself. But he’s one of the only people to not do such interviews while active. And that was his choice, from all accounts, so he was “allowed to” do regular interviews prior but chose not to.

"Protecting your character" in a post-kayfabe world is some the silliest and stupidest shit that needs to die.
For one, there's no way in hell it's good for you psychologically, and for two... does he really think anyone over the age of, say, 10 really thought that there wasn't just some guy behind the Undertaker character who had a normal life with a spouse and children and all that?
I really do think that all of the old timers deluded themselves into thinking the audience was full of rubes who didn't know this shit's not real.

I think it was more about making it easier for people to suspend disbelief while watching. If you’re never seeing someone with a gimmick like that out of character then you’re more likely to get sucked into the story on-screen. That would be the idea I guess, not sure if it works on everyone or not. Example with Taker though, I can remember an adult family member of mine knowing that wrestling is fake, but thinking that Taker in real life buys into the character because they had seen him outside of the ring still portraying the character or at least somewhat portraying the character. There are layers between knowing it’s all fake and thinking everything is real. You kind of see something similar now (although he perhaps takes it too far) with MJF.

As a Yank, I don't know if there's any greater hell than being near James Corden

Can't we have some degree of both? The audience knows that Undertaker is a dude who likes his wife, MMA & Motorcycles, but is it terrible for him to not give interviews and make appearances as Mark Calaway when he's wrestling? Rey & Dom don't have a real beef, but they also don't need to pal around together leaving the arena or make Instagram videos hanging out right now.

I don't know what you guys are talking about - that photo is real. I'm going to ask about his deck when he sits down for the Doo Doo Scoopz interview.
