Not considering the World Heavyweight Championship, Daniel Bryan's WWE Championship at Summerslam vs John Cena was a total surprise to me.

Sheamus winning the title was so random and awkwardly done, that I thought for sure that they were going to reverse the decision.

Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 31 was a huge shock. Originally it felt like Roman would win in the build up. Then when Lesnar re-signed there was the feeling he would retain.

How has nobody said one of the most important moments in wrestling history, Mick Foley's first title win? He wasn't what a champion was supposed to look like and more importantly I never expected the title to change on raw back then.
I suppose if you watched wcw it wasn't a surprise but it was to me dammit.

Andre beating Hogan on the NBC Main Event show, as a kid I never thought Hulk would lose the title. I look back on that and wonder if the Meltzers of the world back then had a different view. Like they had to do something to build to Mania 4 so it was likely Hogan would drop the belt beforehand, etc. But yeah, Li’l Citizen Snips just stared at the TV in shock and horror.

Could Goldberg's WCW title win count?
Being it was against Hogan, who was teaming with Rodman that Sunday, even in an arena like Georgia Dome you'd have to factor past nWo participants in main events. Not saying people were thinking the streak would end, but I'm pretty sure many were thinking that it would be a DQ finish to keep the title on Hogan while keeping Goldberg's streak alive.

Diesel's first title win must have came as a bit of a surprise. Not that he won the title but the fact it happened on a house show just days after Backlund won the title at a big PPV. Definitely a shocker. Tuning into the Saturday morning shows expecting the usual Survivor Series results show and Todd Pettingill’s all “GUESS WHAT MUTHAf***AS!!!” They even showed it, like to prove it happened. On Superstars three days after the show, they announced Backlund would defend the title against Diesel at MSG. Plus, Pettengill made it sound like Stu Hart tossed the towel into the ring, not Helen. There was no Survivor Series footage as they had produced the episode before it. On Action Zone on Sunday morning, though, they actually showed the footage of Diesel winning the title. I think that since AZ was on USA Network rather than airing in syndication, they were able to have McMahon and Pettengill do their voiceover commentary live.

I don't really think this is true, especially for Sheamus since Cena had held the title at that point for less than two months after a blow-off to a years long feud. Most people just thought these were random one off title challengers and well, those things happened. I remember talk at the time that Cena would drop the title at TLC (in a protected way obviously due to the tables gimmick) then regain it on the big Jan 4 show head to head with Hogan/TNA. The latter obviously didn't happen though, They were hot-shotting the world titles like crazy from late 2008 to late 2009. Edge had a run were he would win/lose the title at every consecutive PPV for months. He won it at Survivor Series, lost it at Armageddon, won it at Rumble, lost it at No Way Out, won the other title the same night, dropped it at Mania, won it at Backlash, lost it at Extreme Rules. It was ridiculous. Then you had Cena/Orton and Hardy/Punk trading multiple times. I know there was a lot of hotshotting but just look at the predictions on this forum for TLC 2009: officialfan.proboards.com/thread/245952/tlc-2009-predictions-gameIt was basically unanonimous that Cena would win

If we’re talking MITB winners, there were a lot of folks expecting Miz to fail.
They certainly weren’t expecting him to win the belt in the midst of the Nexus angle.

Eddie was surprising to me. I remember being plugged into the IWC and Eddie winning the title wasn’t the popular consensus.

Since the WCW title was briefly in the WWF…
David Arquette has to be up there, considering it came 16 some days after the big Russo and Bischoff reset of WCW and took whatever momentum it could have plausibly had and smothered it dead.
On the more positive side of that year, Booker winning it out of nowhere on a night that Hogan and Jarrett were supposed to main event. Yeah, the circumstances were garbage, but it was probably the last feel good moment for either WCW or its top championship.

Idk I didn't find Sheamus winning a major surprise. At that point Cena losing in gimmick matches was their get out of jail free card so he wouldn't have to take a pin or submit.
Bray Wyatt first title win. There was the rumor he would win but just seemed crazy they finally put the title on him right after AJ had a hot run and Cena finally got a W over him.

I think Sheamus is the big one in my lifetime because it was obvious they thought highly of him and he would be elevated up the card, but it happened so fast. His title match felt like kind of a test to see how he’d do, but then he ended up winning.
Ultimately it felt premature. He’d been on the main roster less than a year.
