Brandi Rhodes really helped that character and presentation A LOT. Then, once he went blond the whole thing completely clicked. People dismiss her, but yeah, having her in tow did help him look like that much more of a star. Not even just from a "she's hot" standpoint, even if obviously that wasn't a non-factor, but because she really is great at hyping him. I don't think she'd fit his current act really, but if he does go heel down the line, cut her a check. Can't imagine Cody going heel for a long, long time, dude is the hottest face on the roster and when he finishes this story, there are a lot more to tell with Cody as a face.

Cody: "After I beat Roman, I'll disappear."
Cody beats Roman with the help of Seth. Seth turns to Cody: "This is your world now." And he returns to the Farplane.
Brandi tries to hug Cody but goes straight through him. "I love you," she says.
Cody runs and jumps out of the ring and disappears. Suteki Da Ne plays, everyone cries, and the greatest WrestleMania of all time comes to an end.

From the Observer:
The story is that Levesque scrambled behind the scenes to keep Rhodes at all times.
The Levesque idea was said to be to shoot an injury angle where the Bloodline would take out Rhodes on the 2/2 show in Birmingham. This would lead to the official announcement of Reigns vs. Rock at the press conference in Las Vegas. In the end Rhodes would return and he should win the title.
Rhodes was never going to get screwed and was always going to get a match with Reigns, but whether it would be at Mania or shortly after is not clear. But this was always an angle to build Reigns vs. Rhodes.
Where that is said to have changed is that Punk got hurt, leaving Rollins without an opponent. Levesque at the time made the move to put Rhodes in the spot, which is where the plan of Rollins vs. Rhodes for night one and Rock vs. Reigns for night two came. At that point, Rhodes was not going to face Reigns at Mania but still would after.

The Observer also suggested that it was the Rock who lobbied for the pivot to Cody vs. Roman and that he wanted the heel turn to happen after that 2/2 Smackdown tease.

Dave seems all over the place week to week on this story.

Dave seems all over the place week to week on this story. Yes but I don't think that's on Dave. I think there's just a lot of changes backstage and folks hearing different things. It seems like it was a very fluid situation for two weeks.

Dave seems all over the place week to week on this story. He's been weirdly inconsistent on whether it was a work all a long or a pivot.

Good on Dwayne for reading the room and pivoting. It seems like he respects his fellow pro wrestlers more than his fellow actors lol

Dwayne is a businessman. I’d Like to think he can see that now they have a chance to make this even bigger.
And still leave room to do Roman vs. Rock later on as well.

He probably sees more business in having him as a heel taking on a (presumably down the line) babyface Roman next year so Roman can go over.

I see all this about face Roman vs heel Rock but I don’t see the Rock having his final match as a heel. I think Cody pins the Rock in the night 1 tag, and then Roman isn’t happy about it and the next night Roman loses

Not sure if they’re ready to do that, though. Rock can always be a face whenever he pops up after that feud is over (say, for a Hall of Fame induction).

Speaking of Dave:
...Did he get confused and think this decade old clip with Rock/HHH happened last week?
At first I thought maybe he was confusing the moment at the end of the press conference when Rock/Roman tell HHH to fix things but he specifically says they called each other out for a Mania match which obviously didn't happen. It did in that old clip though and that was posted a lot on social media last week with people reminiscing about Rock/HHH feuding.
I guess they could take it as a compliment about how they're aging that Dave bought a clip of them from October 2014 as taking place in February 2024 lol. Although kinda weird that if he thought it was last week but didn't think it was notable that Stephanie was in it who hasn't been seen since leaving the company.

And then Triple H challenged the Rock to put his Intercontinental title on the line in a ladder match and Big Show got added because he won the match at Survivor Series.
