Even past Cody losing it was just a shit ending. Solo beat for beat did not only the same run-in that he'd done in his main roster debut but that Trick had done the day before. It was just so damn creatively bankrupt.

I think it might be the most disappointing Mania ending ever, but not worst. 9 was worse in hindsight, but at the time Hulkamania was running wild brother. WM2000's sucked, but it wasn't a very good Mania besides.
I guess we'll see how things are perceived when we're less prisoners of the moment. Maybe after a few months, it doesn't look as bad in hindsight. Or it looks even worse.

Crowd loved it. Most people watching that I knew at the time loved it too. Yeah, but it still was a bad ending logistically. Didn't help Hogan was AWOL until June and dropped it back to Yoko.

Yeah no way. Not even close.
As far as shows I was at, the second one in New Orleans with the Brock/Reigns match. That was not good. Like no one there liked or cared about the match, it ended with the heel winning decisively and then everyone just kinda stumbled off.

I don’t hate the idea of a heel winning, especially in a two night event, but the Brock/Reigns match New Orleans had no redeeming qualities. Also, Wrestlemania 17 is an amazing show but it ends with Stone Cold shaking Vince’s hand. One of the single worst booking decisions ever.

In retrospect, it was a sucky ending, but at the time, it still adhered to the WM "tradition" of having the good guy stand tall in the end.

Yeah, that's the last Mania I watched, and I just felt numb after it. The last thing you want at the end of a big 4-5 hour show (or however long it was) is to sit there contemplating over why you wasted your time with it.

It was my favorite ending in Mania history

Yep, 34 is a way stronger contended for that 'honour'. The match wasn't good (Cody/Roman was pretty damn great even if you're not a fan of Cody losing) and they weren't certain enough to even do what people thought WWE wanted, so it was just a waste of time, and a fitting end to a Mania that was awesome for the first 90 minutes (including the Ronda mixed tag, Charlotte/Asuka and the IC triple-threat) then got pretty meh on the whole.

It's up there... but Roman beating Taker and Brock vs Reigns from New Orleans were f***ing rough
Hulk winning the belt was also a retrospective shitty one.

I think "the crowd liked it" re: WrestleMania 9 is exactly why we need to take some time to wait for recency bias to run out before we decide this actually. Wrestlemania 9 was bad mostly with hindsight.
Though I will say, I dont really care if the crowd like it. I don't. And this discussion is inherently subjective.
That said, I'm pretty sure I will decide that that 39 was worse in retrospect. Just because Cody is my second favorite wrestler and I was looking forward to his coronation immensely.

Taker. That embarrassing shitshow can only be topped if both guys just run from the ring because Tito Santana fed them some of that cooking of his.

No, the botched run-in/DQ finish from VIII is still the unlikely-to-be-beaten champion for me. And that includes the botched finish from 35.

WM13: After Hart and Austin have a classic. The show ends with Undertaker and Sid having a dud.
WM 18: After Hogan and Rock blow the roof off the place. The show ends with Triple H and Jericho ending the feud over Stephanies dog.
WM 25: Taker and Michaels have an epic match. Then the show ends with Triple H and Orton having a borefest.

All good points but none of these were specifically designed to make their fans angry.

It’s 34 for me. Nothing redeeming there - the crowd hated it, the match was poor, it seemed like no one was invested in seeing Roman v Brock again going in, it seemed like no one wanted either guy to win. As anti climactic as you can get.
I did want Roman to win at this mania as I just don’t see Cody as the guy, and I have loved every minute of end boss Roman. The match itself was also outstanding - whatever your feelings on the outcome.

I think it's up there in terms of how it was booked. Match itself wasn't the worst Main Event match ever but the booking was certainly up there in terms of worst ever IMO.

WM 25: Taker and Michaels have an epic match. Then the show ends with Triple H and Orton having a borefest. That wasn't entirely the fault of Trips or Orton, though the patented "BIGGEST BADASS EVVURR-AH!" style of The Game didn't exactly help. The stipulation turned what should have been a brutal fight into just a match. If it had been what it should have been, just a brutal brawl where both dudes tried to kill each other and ending with Orton lying in a pool of his own blood, surrounded by broken tables and bent chairs, it would have been a worthy ending to the show.

I'm not hot on Cody. Never have been. No big deal for me.
1000+ day reign - May as well do it, it's so close.
Wonder if Rock called them and said he'd be ready for Wrestlemania 40?
