My first trip to the beach when I was 2. I specifically remember sitting on a beach blanket with my mom and aunt with Stayin' Alive playing on the radio, trying to crawl on my cousin's skateboard, my dad showing me a dead shark that had washed up on the sand, and driving over a really high bridge that haunted my nightmares for years after.

Lying down in my crib in my old bedroom. I think I was like 2 or 3 years old.
Also the time I was on the Cape May-Loews ferry when I was like 4 years old and a seagull stole my f***ing pretzel. Snatched it out of my hands. That gave me legit ornithophobia until I was like a teenager. And even now, I sometimes involuntarily jerk back when a bird flies by me. Probably why I like penguins so much lol.

Playing in mudwater. Backyard of my grandmother’s beautiful house. There’s pictures of it too but I just vividly remember loving the mudwater.
I also have a vague, foggy memory of this old wood-looking restaurant that serves fried chicken. Apparently my parents used to go there.
And it’s not my earliest memory but standing in line for The Lion King was the first time I kind of assessed my place in life: the year, what I was doing, etc.

I have many memories of being no more than 3 years old, and I know that because they are all linked to a house we moved away from when I was 3.
1. Playing with plastic army men with my dad and him giving them names. 2. Playing Hot Wheels in my bed. 3. Finding packages of Sweet Tarts behind the refrigerator. 4. Taking a shower with my mom. 5. Riding tricycle in front of the house and in the church parking lot across the street. 6. Sitting under my dad's desk and shitting my pants. 7. Sitting on baby potty and getting praised for taking a shit. 8. Getting Little People barn playset for Christmas. 9. Picking radishes out of my dad's salad when he wasn't looking. 10. Listening to records with my mom.
I could go on, but I can still clearly remember how the whole house was laid out and how most of the furniture was arranged. People have told me that I remember crazy stuff.

I think late 1989, moving into a new apartment in Palatine, IL. I believe I just turned 3 years old. The strongest first memory I have is probably a year later. I had a TV in my room on top the dresser. I tried to climb up on it to change the channel, and then the dresser tipped over and it fell on top of me. That’s not what hurt, but what did hurt was that there was a glass piggy bank on top also that broke and cut my left arm. And the next thing I remember being in the hospital screaming as they gave me stitches.
You know funny about first memories. Even when they seemed to go on, it always feels fuzzy. Like you never really know when you become truly aware of things. It’s like a switch comes on. But it’s kind of fuzzy. Just thinking of your first memories.

Being set out in the snow by my dad as a baby. That wasn't too fun. Another one that happened a few years later: Playing Metroid on NES before my first day of preschool.

I seem to vaguely remember being absolutely terrified of a Ronald McDonald poster and crying a lot.

My earliest memory?
Well before I reached that age (about 3 or 4ish) when my memory started to work properly. If was like a “previously on” bit from a tv show that was selected moments.
Then one day I just woke and instinctively went downstairs like I did that every morning.

My earliest memory is when I was, like, 3, and my dad was leading me around a little riding enclosure at the guest ranch him and my mom worked at over the summer on the back of his horse. Suddenly, one of the other horses kicked up, which spooked my dad's horse and caused it to go sideways out from under me, while I went straight down and ate dirt.
Good times.

Being in the backseat of a broken down car when I was about 18 months old. My parents and grandmother got out to push while my granddad sat in the passenger seat. I said something like ‘We’re moving granddad!’ and he turned around and smiled.
My earliest memory, and the only memory I have of my granddad.

Sitting at my grandma’s kitchen table and eating breakfast at maybe the age of 3 or so.
I’m 40.

My sister being born and being more interested in the toy Proton Pack my mum had got me for being good for my dad while she was in the hospital
Spending most of Christmas Day in the TMNT tent I’d got that year playing with my figures
Getting the Hasbro WWF ring as a Christmas present from my late aunt, something I still have stored away in the loft, albeit in a battered condition
Being in my late nan’s with the family for something when the whole house had a power cut and finding her hiding in a cupboard shaking once the power came back on (she had lived through the war so it brought bad memories back)

When I was 6 my dad was able to get full custody of me despite my mom moving a few times, forcing a restart of the custody battle each time. My dad brought me home and I was reintroduced to my stepmom and half brother, who was 1 at the time. I remember declaring that the kid in the crib wasn’t my brother because he didn’t look a thing like the kid I met a year earlier. I know I remembered at the time what he looked like a few months old, but I don’t at all retain that memory now. It’s so weird to have a memory of having a memory that is now lost to me forever.

I'm 40 and I remember seeing Transformers the movie in theaters. I remember rushing be cause we were running late. We walked in on the scene where Megatron was blast the autobots into autobots. I always think about what if I was there during the opening scene and the intro. So that was around 4. But I also remember sitting in this little red chair to watch TV. So I'll say at least going back to around 3 or 4 years old.
