The vignettes for them were pretty awesome, but they had no idea what to do on TV with the act. Many such cases. Didn't Sean O'Haire's "Devil's Advocate" gimmick more or less fizzle out as soon as it hit live audiences, too? WWE still hasn't figured out how to translate good, creative vignettes into good, creative characters.

Apparently the idea for Mei Ying was to be like Yoda where she'd be super old and could barely move until she had to wrestle where she would be a high flying badass. But then they didn't do that and it sucked.

Wendy's whole character evolution into sleepy chick just makes think that the Tian Sha phase was just a weird dream she was having from drinking too much orange soda. knowing how HBK's NXT is, I wouldn't be surprised if they made that into canon.

From what was said at the time to get the vignettes done Sean would take a shot of whiskey before each take to calm his nerves... Something you can't really do live because A. there are no takes live and B. you shouldn't be wrestling drunk...

How was O'Haire's character meant to translate to the common wrestling match? Seems like "Devil's Advocate" is something that only seems to work as a catalyst for the actions of others, which would at least get you a match with a third party that gets aggrieved in the process, but then that still leads us back to square one.

Kross took what Sean O'haire did and IMO not only did it better but made it work pretty easily in Impact and that was just a more visually enhanced version of what he was doing on the indies.
LU took a literal timetraveler in vingettes and then gave him space nunchucks to fight alongside his 1000 year old best friend Dragon.
Here is me being the broken record again WWE is just not made to make spoopy things work.

One of the big mistakes WWE did with Bray was going full “spoopy wizard with magic powers” with him and not keeping him as the soft-spoken cult leader who can turn people to his cause with a few words.

One of the big mistakes WWE did with Bray was going full “spoopy wizard with magic powers” with him and not keeping him as the soft-spoken cult leader who can turn people to his cause with a few words. Once LU did what they did the rest of the industry should have paid f***ing attention IMO and any fan that watched it understood exactly why LU made the spoopy work better than any other company. Was because these things exsisted in its own world and that enabled LU to create its own rules and stayed consistent nothing every felt out of place. Life Vs Death in human form constantly battling. Vampire-demon man who also commentates Skeleton ninja who breaks arms A hunter Add onto the mob like propieter who keeps his cannibal brother in a cell and controlls him with a key LU was able to make that work because the world they created was for these things and more to co-exsist and the writing was so strong. The likes of WWE and AEW are incapable unless they go the LU route and specifically create a show with the purpose of such things exsisting on its own and not bleeding over into their other shows but nope they keep square pegging the round hole by trying to do things like blending The Fiend no selling getting blown up and no one else in the company batting a f***ing eye outside of who he was feuding with. And yea the biggest mistake they made was letting bray go beyond the swamp cult leader who could get followers to his cause with his words.
