I don't know anything for sure, but my understanding when the Fox deal was made for SD's rights was that Fox was figuring on WWE drawing them around a 1.0 in the prime demo. SD does well for them, no doubt, but it's possible they view it as falling short given the price tag that came attached. They're underperforming compared to what they projected originally, but I'm fairly certain SmackDown generally wins the demo most Friday's, which is a pretty big deal. WWE might not get 1.75x out of Fox, but I could see 1.5x being attainable As another poster mentioned reports are that Fox is losing money on Smackdown because of the weak advertising rates. And as yet another poster mentioned Fox just lost a crapton of money settling the Dominion suit with more suits/settlements on the way. Even if they wanted to give WWE more money they may not be able to.

Nevertheless, I don't think the Fox News stuff will have an impact on what they choose to invest in for the network side. The bigger issue would be if Fox is indeed running any kind of loss on Smackdown; I have no idea if that's true, but if it turns out the ad money isn't compensating them for what they invested then that changes the entire tenor of every conversation on the matter.

The ad money for these big TV rights deals almost never makes up for the amount of money spent, so it’s a bit of an illusionary argument. The idea though is that the networks also make money in other ways, such as carriage fees and having certain programming and getting certain ratings helps bolster those carriage fees.

Vince is like the only human being that constantly fails upward. Of course, they'll get more money.
