Not terribly surprising, given her desperately poor health over the last ten years, but a big loss nonetheless. A true icon.

I still wonder...I swear she made a remote appearance on...something. What was it? It wasn't that long ago too.

Really? I didn't know about her physical condition. What happened? She had a stroke in 2013, bowel cancer in 2016, went into renal failure in 2017 after years of untreated hypertension, and had a kidney transplant (her husband donated a kidney after she signed onto an assisted suicide program).

That was my first and biggest exposure to Tina Turner. That movie had its flaws, but man she played her role perfectly. So much charisma and screen presence that perfectly played against Mel Gibson. "Ain't we a pair, Raggedy Man?"

R.I.P
Amazing impact. I was a child of the 80s and a teen of the 90s and Tina was quite an impactful presence in Australia around those times.
Like acting in the third Mad Max film. The Nutbush was a mandatory play during school dances. And around the early 90s she did a duet of “Simply The Best” with that screaming guy from that meme Jimmy Barnes for some Rugby League thing (sorry, I grew up in Victoria where league was not really a big deal (no Melbourne team at the time) but that duet got a lot of airplay) ..
Didn't realise till later if how extensive her music career was.
I know I had the RIP up there.. But in Australia we like say something else to someone that contributed a lot to Australian culture so:
VALE

When I saw the news, I was stunned for a good minute or two, and then I plugged my phone into my classroom's intercom speakers and played "We Don't Need Another Hero" at full volume. The kids thought I was nuts, but it had to be done.

And from what I understand, it worked a treat and grew attendances and TV audiences across the league. For that alone, let alone everything else, Tina Turner will always be an icon in this country.

Rest in power to a legend and a trailblazer for women in many music genres.
One of the greatest voices in music history and she could dominate any stage she performed on. To say “simply the best” is a big understatement of all her talent.

This one hit hard. Her music was part of my life from a very, very young age.
She took the biggest risk of all, and gambled on her self, and won the jackpot. An inspiration, and a trailblazer. RIP Tina.

P.S. at least she outlived Ike. Harsh, I know, but can't help but feel like this. It is immensely satisfying knowing he will forever be looking up at her. RIP you dynamo of a woman.

I've been thinking about her 80s comeback and how it's a testament to her talent and presence how she could take any song and make it her own. She wasn't the first artist to perform what's love got to do with it, Bucks Fizz of all groups were, but she took a song that could have been a largely forgotten album track and made it a deeply oersonal anthem nobody else could do justice to. That is a talent few will ever be able to replicate. RIP Tina.
