His career in North America at the very least is done. If he's lucky enough to get another shot, he'll find himself playing overseas, most likely in Russia.

Eh, if Carolina will sign the likes of Tony DeAngelo, they'd probably LOVE to have a guy that claims he can get Putin's thugs to cut out anyone's organs with just a phone call.

That's a giant hit to Boston. They have to be praying that Krejci returns now.

That's a giant hit to Boston. They have to be praying that Krejci returns now. It's not unexpected. Bergeron didn't re-sign with the Bruins last off-season until early August, and even then he took an extremely team-friendly one-year deal. From the second the ink dried on that contract, it was pretty well understood that 2022-23 was Bergeron's last ride. That was all the more obvious with the emotional way he and the team reacted following the Game 7 loss to Florida in the playoffs. To the larger point, yes, they are now left extremely thin at center. They have Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle returning, but after that they're relying on free agent acquisitions Morgan Geekie and Patrick Brown to anchor the third and fourth lines. They'll need to sign or trade for a center (David Krejci seems like a longshot to return, but anything's possible) because I don't know if they can rely on anyone coming up from Providence in case Geekie and Brown don't stick.

I didn't think it was unexpected, but their outlook obviously hinged a lot on what happened with their older centers. Most people thought they'd retire, but it's come up before and more importantly you can't move on until they do. It wouldn't be a murky situation if it was a given.

I'm such a sucker: Devils are about to get me to upgrade a 14 game plan into a 20 game one.
I'm still salty that only full season ticket holders got regular priced playoff ticket access last season, but I just can't commit to 41 games.

Penguins just dumped all their bad contracts in San Jose and got one of the best offensive defensemen in the game. Dubas is amazing

Jesus, Washington gave Tom Wilson 7 years, $6.5 million per.
I doubt that ages very well, but as I saw someone say on twitter: "Tom Wilson destroyed the Rangers' rebuild. You simply can't put a price on things like that."
As for Karlsson, it's kind of hilarious to see the range of reactions to the deal; some came out saying "wow, a three team trade where everybody lost", but I think the more nuanced takes I've seen have at least indicated some of the logic behind a lot of what went down and how many pieces there were.
Pitt really wants to go for it while they still have their top guys playing like top guys. The rebuild that's coming is going to be incredibly painful, but in the meantime they don't want to waste Sid and company, and I can't really blame them. I can see someone saying that giving up more futures when their team is getting so old (though this trade, miraculously, actually makes them a tick younger), but their first rounder this year likely isn't going to be THAT high, and even if it is apparently the pick is top 10 protected. I still think this is risky: Karlsson was astounding with his scoring last year, but was it an aberration after his two previous not so good seasons? Plus he's a downright poor defender, so if his scoring falls off and he gets older will he be a liability, especially on a team where goaltending/defense is currently an issue? It's still quite possible they won't be a playoff team, regardless. But again: if they don't go for it with this core right now, they'll just be wasting their time, and given that part of what killed Pitt last year was problems finishing on scoring chances, Karlsson likely greatly improves that weakness.
For San Jose...I don't know, man, there really should've been a better return, here. They only retained $1.5 million of his cap hit and only get that one first rounder and then a bunch of random pieces? They did clear out a ton of money off their roster, which may well end up being a positive for them, but for the purposes of their rebuild they need futures, there's so much work they need to do and this was their last big piece to try and get something more substantial and...one first rounder? Feels weird.

Those other fools has to play and had much longer contracts. Only worry now is how long Jake will be out, what he’ll be like when he gets back and how Sid is going to react if they don’t re-up 58

This is basically a retirement tour from here on out, and I've accepted that.

Dubas is amazing Meanwhile, it seems Brad Treliving's moves aren't doing much to move the needle. Getting Bertuzzi and Domi I do like, but in reality, those 2 are coming in following the departures of Bunting & Kerfoot. Bertuzzi may as well be replacing Bunting because he's a very similar player in the sense he plays with an edge just like he does. Doesn't look like Domi will be replacing Kerfoot though because while Domi can center a line, that doesn't look like the case as the Leafs plan on having him on the wing with Tavares & Nylander on the 2nd line. Instead, Kämpf will be the 3C and I guess Holmberg or Gambrell as 4C? Anyways, the thought of Domi being on the 2nd line with Tavares & Nylander makes me want to grit my teeth because holy shit, that sounds like it's gonna be terrible defensively. Then you've got Kämpf being moved up to center the 3rd line, the issues still persistent with the bottom 6, and Ryan Reaves of all people on the 4th line. On top of that, recent reports coming out that Treliving pushed hard to try to get Milan Lucic and Radko Gudas. In essence, it actually looks like the Leafs have taken a step backwards.

He's the worst defenseman to ever win the Norris and if the Pens think they're gonna win the Cup with all those old men, they have another think coming.

Pretty sure they brought him in to fix the power play and make it so either he or Letang is always out with Sid and Geno. Don’t think they’re concerned with defensive abilities, just passing and scoring.
