This is going to land on the McDavid's and such of the NHL to say "f*** you, we're doing it", but those guys never do. So, some 4th line player will and the NHL is going to have a media firestorm on its hands.

Tonight is Opening Night for my LA Kings. Some people are saying we could be a Cup contender. I dunno how with the goaltending trio of Copley, Talbot, and Rittich we have.

Book the parade, Canucks beat Edmonton 8-1.
Also, damnit Ottawa, you had Carolina, just beat the bastards.
EDIT: Oh, and some kid scored his first goal last night.

And guys like Steven Stamkos (who was really critical of the jersey ban) and Jack Hughes have been good in that, too. And not with wishy-washy PR speak either. But yeah, not sure if he'd rock the boat to that degree.

The two locals that played tonight both won their first games, though it's not like I could've watched the Devils because their game was only on ESPN+. I guess MSG got blocked from airing their game on any of their channels.

The Devils are 4/5 on the powerplay against the Islanders tonight.
They've generated a ton of great 5-on-5 shots and chances but Sorokin has looked like prime Martin Brodeur against those.
Then the Islanders take a penalty and a goal becomes automatic.

I know the season is still young and it's an overreaction, but I do have some concerns so far about the Devils in terms of defense and goaltending. At least they played a mostly clean game and killed off the couple of penalties they did have tonight.

At least they played a mostly clean game and killed off the couple of penalties they did have tonight. Defense isn't concerning me too badly; Bahl and lil' Hughes are young and are adjusting, Graves and Severson not being around also takes some adjusting (though Graves' numbers were never as strong as I think some people assumed given the minutes he got), but there's enough talent there that it's likely a case of just needing to keep playing and growing as a unit. Goaltending, eh, yeah, that's been more iffy to me, though some of that could also be on the PK being a bit weak the first three games. Schmid really should've stopped at least a couple of the Isles' goals last night, no doubt about it; I'm hoping last night was a case of him having a bit too much rest between starts, they'll need to navigate him and Vitek both needing rest but also both needing to stay fresh.

Vegas starting its cup defense strong now being 6-0. Season is still super young but I do love seeing Vegas lead the league in points, wins and +/-. Keep it up boys

All 32 teams play tonight on a staggered schedule so ESPN can zip around to show different parts of each game and not have all of them in intermission.
Interesting idea, I suppose.

The Bruins are good at hockey and may have found something in Matt Poitras

Good. A blanket ban for something the overwhelming majority of players supported was really stupid.

I used to play ice hockey in my teens and I have a scar on my right wrist from an accidental slash from somebody's skate. After that I had an almost uncontrollable fear of having my throat cut in similar circumstances, so seeing this happen in a professional league brings back all that dread. RIP.

I played my whole life with a neck guard. I started playing right after Malarchuk got cut, so it's always been apart of my life. I'm sure technology has come a long ways from 1988 to 2023, but players just don't wear it. There has to be a cut proof turtleneck guys could be wearing. Even in recent years goalies have stopped wearing the neck shield, no idea why.
