I'm just here to say that Total Divas was, without hyperbole, the best hour of WWE content in the week of which it was aired.
It was a delightful show especially once it branched out after the first season.

So many memories, Paige's boyfriends and their cover bands, Eva Marie's boyfriend and his hat, Nattie getting Icy Hot in the rectum, etc.

John Cena was a delight in the episodes I saw him in. Long live John Cena's alter ego Dee Stokes beer pong enthusiast

Never really watched the show, and I don't blame WWE for having the show, but I think when they initially tried to blend Total Divas into Raw angles it very much turned into awful tv

Reality tv is trash but a brilliant move from a marketing pov.
Still surprised AEW didn’t try to do the same.

Total Divas was easily the best WWE show at the time.

It set the women's division back years when people like AJ Lee were trying to bring it forward

It set the women's division back years when people like AJ Lee were trying to bring it forward I think the opposite. It brought more eyes to the product, especially in the female demo, and the continuing of giving minimal time to the division in spite of the new eyes led in my opinion to the whole give divas a chance movement and the speeding up of the division’s evolution.

The division's evolution and Give Divas A Chance was due to the great matches women were putting on regularly in NXT getting attention. The show had little to do with wrestling and was just about characters, just when other women were starting to get respect as marketable wrestlers. Most of the women on the show were either basic wrestlers or had an obvious ceiling. Bar Ronda. I'm still gutted she did this show.

Edited to add I didn't like that one particular line either but it was one misstep in a career that helped get respect for women in wrestling

That whole divas revolution didn’t start until about 2016 on the main roster. And the nxt revolution didn’t start until 2014. So total divas was a year ahead of that. The Rhonda thing reminds of people who were mad that Paige was on the show. Cause it shattered the illusion people had of them being serious wrestlers

I don’t think the women’s division gets to where it is without the increased interest and eyeballs on the division as a result of Total Divas. I don’t think AJ Lee really fits in that discussion much in an on-screen perspective (though her tweet to Stephanie may have been a similarly big influence as Total Divas was and I believed happened just after the GiveDivasaChance trend). Also, what long matches was AJ having besides the long match she had with Nattie on Main Event that one time, and that happened after Total Divas started. As to being “basic wrestlers,” I think Nikki Bella developed into a better in-ring performer than AJ Lee, and Natalya was ahead of her too.
