Steveson was put into a crate with a label to be delivered to...next door, I guess. Please Ship to AEW Tony Khan: "Oh a crate just came in today. I wonder what's inside." *Opens the crate and sees Gable Steveson inside* Tony Khan:

When you're so bad that Baron Corbin of all people, gets loud cheers.
Day-um.

So how does this rank on the list of "Worst things to happen on a show called Great American Bash"? Higher or lower than Paul Bearer being encased in concrete?

If he’s done-zo he’s going to make a fascinating factoid one day. Or end up on someone’s “Top Ten Biggest Busts” thing on YouTube. Bigger bust than Brakkus, not as big as Nathan Jones, probably, by virtue of how much they spent on Jones.

Steveson was the unquestioned chosen one, like I mentioned before even having a match he was on the sell sheets for trading cards. They went all in on him, and it's not looking good. At least Nathan Jones had those kickass vignettes before debuting.

I’ve seen the Botchamania video doing the rounds of Gable getting booed but not the whole match itself. Was there a botch that turned the crowd or were they against him from the start?

I regret to remind you about WWE being willing to spend the money to build a whole mobile training facility for him in Minnesota

We at least got those awesome vignettes for Nathan Jones. The Beast of Boggo Road. Ain't a clue what that is but it sounds ominous to me.
They hoped Gable would be the future captain of their ship but he's not even Captain Boo Boo Tits...

Bryan Alvarez had a good point in saying that the issue may not have been his private life, like at least not with most fans, that he hasn't had these kinds of reactions at his other appearances. But, when he was floundering and went for an ankle lock (poorly applied), fans rejected him soundly because it marked him as a Kurt Angle wannabe. I suspect the same would have happened had he gone for a shoddy F-5.

Yeah, that'd make some sense; you really need the crowd's respect before you start busting out tribute spots, and doing tribute spots if people don't think you've earned it is one of the easiest ways to lose that respect.

You'd think that Vince/Trips/Shawn would have learned from the last "chosen one" not getting over, seeing as that last one was Austin Theory.
Dare we hope, then, that the "chosen one" trope goes tf away. It doesn't do the poor sod saddled with it any favours and, if anything, makes the task of putting them over more difficult. Plus, in a post-kayfabe era, all it really does is make the company an enemy of the fans. It's an Authority angle written somewhat smaller.
As for Steveson himself, if he wants to try again in Paris and he has the company's blessing, I say let him go. That said, he's been given the keys to the kingdom without earning them or demonstrating that he can carry them well. This is one case where he might want to come back under a different name and gimmick; perhaps then he might be able to earn his name back once he's able to shed the baggage and the disappointment he's caused here. At least Damon Kemp seems promising.

At least Damon Kemp seems promising. It's not likely. One early 2000's Brock Lesnar probably is enough to make dozens of fizzled-out overpushes worth it. Guys like him, Kurt Angle, and women like Trish Stratus, among other examples, kind of highlight why "boom or bust" booking tactics keep getting utilized. It works more often than fans might think it does, just, obviously nowhwere near as often as WWE and other companies try it.

Against him from the start. Even ignoring the sexual assault being swept under the rug, he's bland. There's not much charisma, or presence, no character outside of good amateur wrestler, and he doesn't have a killer look to cover that up. Angle had charisma, presence, and the character of self-righteous "face" but was actually a heel. Brock had all of it, and the look that he would straight up kill you if you even stepped on his foot by accident. And he's the chosen one.

I remember when Lars Sullivan's racist message board posts started popping up everywhere online, he was still getting crickets.

My idea if he does stick around - turn him heel and hook him up with Schism. He doesn't talk, he rarely wrestles (they can train him behind the scenes), he's just a silent, bodyguard type character for Joe Gacy who's only job is to emotionlessly toss people around when Schism is threatened or in trouble. Honestly, not that different from what Harland was doing before he was released.

Rumours online he's gone or removed from NXT?
If true, Baron Corbin can't stop retiring Olympians...
