He worked a live event tonight against Dante Chen. "Showing his inner Kurt Angle!" Ok so that comparison isn't helping him in the slightest and wasn't to begin with but how the f*** is he showing his "Inner Kurt Angle" here with the most generic bodyslam of all time? Lmfao

He worked a live event tonight against Dante Chen. It’s what he should’ve been doing the entire f***ing time. Work the loop, get experience, get good. Instead of basically being pencilled in as a main roster guy as soon as he was available. I mean, that would be using your developmental as developmental instead of throwing people on live TV and hoping for the best and who wants that, really?

I think even then Gable Steveson shouldn't be on TV, the dude has negative levels of charisma and is utterly unlikable. Like you would be hard pressed to find a wrestler with less charisma or likability than him.

I was going to say some smart ass shit but then I imaged Gable vs Austin Theory and I was like "I hope Theory crushes him". So yeah, this dude is definitely swampass juice.

People use to say that about Steve Blackman too and look at how much he improved before he was done.

As I've said before, my idea for the guy would be as Schism's silent leg-breaker. He doesn't talk, he doesn't show emotion, doesn't try to be a showman. He just stands behind Joe Gacy looking intimidating and occasionally wrecking a dude when Gacy tells him to.

Angle was shockingly ready for main TV early on. His ppv debut has the self assurance of a vet. They started him slow with jobbers or jtts Steve Blackman but within a month they already had him interacting with HHH and Steph because he was already getting over. This helped Tazzs debut be even bigger, that someone had finally shown up to shut up Angle. He had a match with Jericho in march 2020 where even I was like wow this guy is getting great very quickly. Just a complete prodigy. Once in a lifetime event. Owen helped train him briefly. You can tell.f Angle was wrestling in front of crowds for fifteen months before he debuted on TV. Dark matches, house shows, indies in favour with the WWE (the proto-developmental territories)

Say he grows his beard out to Rick Ross levels, even that doesn't made him look better. Those tattoos ain't it either. Like, I'm just speaking on how he looks because from the majority's perspective look and presence goes before ringwork and promos.

I think that they’d be smart to either put him in the Alpha Academy and let Chad and Otis play off of him to get started or bring Kurt Angle back as his manager/mouthpiece.

I get the reasoning, but this also runs a major risk of highlighting his faults. I do think a manager or another established act could do him some favors, but it probably should be someone with less likelihood of just showing how far he simply isn't yet. Of course, I also think WWE overpaid for him and are likely looking for a quick return on their investment, but if we're just talking "you have to use him, how do you do it?", I think Kurt would be a kiss of death for him.

I do not get the desire to have Angle as his mouthpiece or his manager after his first match got very loud "YOU'RE NOT ANGLE!" chants... that'd only highlight the issues...

People use to say that about Steve Blackman too and look at how much he improved before he was done. With Blackman, they were able to play off his lack of personality by pairing him with Al Snow and creating Head Cheese. I don’t know if there’s a similar dynamic they can use him for. Plus, we’re coming off a relatively new oddball pairing in RK Bro, so it may not be wise to try it again so soon.

My bad if this thread is not allowed to be necro’d but I was looking back on this and felt like it should be capped off with him being released.
He’ll go down as one of the biggest busts in wrestling history, was drafted to Raw two years before he even did anything, just terrible. Dirt worse scumbag human being outside of the ring.
I think about him trying to be like Angle and putting on the ankle lock and the crowd immediately going “hey f*** you you’re not HIM” and just how awful this whole thing was. If he was even below average they would’ve given this guy a Lesnar push but he was really that bad.
Incredibly weird match and career. I doubt we ever see anything remotely similar to it ever again. Cya bozo!

People go on about how Angle was a one-off and he was in terms of character work and quickly getting the sports entertainment side of the business he was but really collegiate wrestling should be a smooth transition to the pro game based on the sheer numbers who've used it as a gateway: Lesnar, Steiner, Hennig, Shelton, Rude, Chad Gable, Otis, Swagger, Ziggler even Cody and Xavier Woods were good at HS (and wrestled each other pre-fame) so how did Stevenson who was great at amateur wrestling and had two years as a high priority task for the performance center coaches just fail so miserably?
Being good at any contact sport should give you a leg up see football (Reigns, Rock, Simmons, Big E, Vader, Corbin etc) or even rugby (Holland, Cersaro) I'm sure the judo dojos are used as a feeder system into the Japanese promotions. In short, Stevenson might never have been able to live up to Angle's sky high standards but how did he get to the stage where he was unable to work a standard match without getting exposed?
