The thing about that is that most celebs are/were relegated to training for a couple sequences and only for a short while. Gable Steveson's been in their wings for years and was outclassed at every aspect by Snooki

I'm just wondering if they knew the guy was this bad why on earth they had him give Corbin a German suplex on the floor. ... And even then I was kind of seriously concerned Corbin got hurt on it at first because he landed straight on his arm.

Just watched the match and it was worse than the initial clips I saw of it. For one shoutout to Corbin because I knew he was cheered over him but I didn't know it was that wild. You'd think Corbin was the babyface with how the crowd reacted and hell even that ending part where Corbin jumped from the table with the Axehandle Smash and then they were counted out, that's just some babyface shit. He tried his best with this dude.

Steveson ain't it and it ain't an "Austin Theory ain't it" type of thing, this is a "nah, this guy has no positives." Theory has the look, he's HAD a character that worked, he's at least ok in the ring, like with Theory I can see him working a few years and it all clicking for him. Steveson on the other hand looks like one of those fake wrestlers you see in 2K games when you just start out. He's got no coordination, no flow and he's got no real character besides "hey this is that gold medalist who sexually assaulted a woman but we want yall to forget about that ya heard?" and that won't cut it. If I don't rock with your look, your in-ring, your character and even your past then why do I care? In-ring Corbin looked like Bret Hart out there compared to him and I never thought I'd say that but when you realize that Corbin was the one giving orders, Corbin was the one doing most of the setting up and selling, when you realize that this match stunk not because of Corbin but all because of this dude it makes you think.

Basically I'm saying I see no upside for Steveson. Let's say he becomes as great as Angle in his prime in the ring. He's got no look that makes him stand out to me, his character will have to change beyond this and more than anything he's got that wild shit on his name which makes him toxic to work with. Damon is better in every single way and this is a dude who nearly ended Jiro.

This dude Gable got Baron Corbin of all cheered.

I don't know man. I know we're quick to jump the gun on a lot of these wrestlers but this doesn't feel good.

Probably because WWE has this idea that people care about him (in a positive way) and think he'll be a big deal because of the Olympics. Also if he fails, it'll be a huge black eye to WWE's NIL program they like to heavily tout, as he was one of their first NIL signings.

It did definitely feel less like, "We're pushing him right out of the gate," and more, "Go out there and prove something," for sure. The non-finish felt like they didn't really want to commit to anything and between the way the match was structured as just kind of a basic, "Corbin gets beaten up a lot, takes control, and trash talks to the camera," it should have been quite easy to do. Probably never would've been stellar, but it was a safe, standard structure of a match featuring a good hand who's reliable for at least a decent match... and it was an absolute disaster.

Kurt was a generational talent. I'm not sure when or if we'll get another wrestler that has taken to pro wrestling as quickly as he did and to the level that he was able to perform at.

Especially when they're an Olympic gold medalist and the WWE is hyping him up like crazy.

Angle was introduced as a white meat face that WWE knew the fans would reject so they could turn him heel. They expected Gable Steveson to get cheered, and Gable doesn't have the charisma of his brother much less Kurt freaking Angle. This couldn't have gone much worse for them outside of a big injury. If they were pleased with his development he probably would have thrown around somebody like Big Body Javi.

I hope part of the test is still ongoing. As in, does he realize that he’s not actually improving and embarrassed himself, so he’s actually going to put in more work? Or will he quit? Which is what I’m sure they are hoping for.
