I'll always (OK, probably not) remember the time Kevin Patrick brought something up and Graves responded like,
Graves: "WHO THINKS THAT? NOBODY THINKS THAT!"
KP (saddest voice imaginable) : "I do :< "

They should snatch back Hannifan whenever possible. He can be the long-term Cole replacement. He was fine but Vic is way better. Has he gotten better than he was on the main roster? I didn’t think he was very good, just solid.

I sincerely think that Michael Cole and Pat McAfee as a two man booth may be, for my personal tastes, the single worst commentary team to ever exist in professional wrestling. Woof. Cole’s great now without Vince in his ear. Can’t think of a better play by play guy in the business currently. McAfee is entertaining but can get grating if he doesn’t reel himself in at times. There’s so many worse commentary teams in history just in WWE- think back to insufferable heel Cole as a commentator, paired up with past his prime Lawler. Or Mike Adamle as lead play by play. Or Coachman. Or later-years Matt Striker. There’s been some awful commentating in the last 20 years. This is another instance of our tastes deviating, but other than maybe Mike Adamle before they leaned into it and made it a meme, I would consider even current Cole worse than everyone you listed, except for insufferable heel Cole himself. It may be some sort of pro wrestling PTSD, but I still find him to be like nails on a chalkboard pretty much 100% of the time. He's toned it down with Vince out of his ear, but he still speaks almost exclusively in inhuman buzzwords and spells everything out in such nauseating and repetitive detail that it drives me up a wall. Recent example: "Looooooooooooooooooooooook who's back. The ROAR IS FOR ANDRADE. AFTER 3 AND A HALF YEARS, Andrade is BACK in WWE." Innocuous stuff when written out, but I found it so grating in the moment that it detracted from Andrade's surprise appearance for me.

He's two shows in and Pat McAfee - who I never really liked to begin with - is already far and away the worst of the six main broadcasters in WWE (Michael Cole, Corey Graves, Wade Barrett, Vic Joseph, Booker T), and if he doesn't get his act together, he could approach all-time worst category alongside the likes of Matt Striker, post-retirement JBL, and late-2000s Jerry Lawler. I truly do not understand what they see (or hear) in McAfee. He's not funny, he's constantly interrupting Cole or the wrestlers on the mic, he goes out of his way to get himself over instead of the performers on screen, he regularly starts sentences and then abruptly stops them, and, most importantly, he's not funny despite thinking he's the second coming of Bobby Heenan.

You’re playing to the cheap seats. It’s broadway, he’s setting the stage not just for the IWC fan but the casual person who may be watching. But I get, subjectively, that not being your cup of tea. For my money, no one currently comes close to Cole. That Ian guy in AEW is the closest.

I think his greatest strength is what can become a detriment: he sounds like just a guy. There’s an authenticity there you can’t replicate. I think a huge part of it is Pat doesn’t need this job. They want him. Unlike Barrett or Graves or whoever who, in their case, it’s their job-job.

In the beginning, people liked his energy, that it came off like someone was actually having fun watching and calling this stuff. But it can get grating if you’re not really up for it at one specific time. Same thing that happened with Mauro Ranallo, but with less pop culture references.

Everything about modern WWE is built so that you can pop in at any given time and be brought up to speed as to the current characters and storylines within 20 minutes. That's not inherently a bad thing at all, it's just not my cup of tea. And Cole is the poster child for it.

Either Ian or Hannifan

I really hope McAfee remembers why he enjoyed this back before College Game Day / ESPN. Dude’s been a shell of himself out there these last few nights.
Wade / Graves intrigues me.

Interesting. Cole and McAfee are WWE’s A- show team with the upcoming move to Netflix. Looking forward to seeing what Graves and Barrett can do together.

I'm not against giving Graves a chance at PBP. Would it be a good idea to at least temporarily add a 3rd to that team, to lighten the pressure a bit?

Granted, there could be some external circumstances on why McAfee's wearing thin on people, namely with his main hustle on his YouTube/ESPN show.

The thing that sucks about KP being let go is we won't get to see that heel turn now.

I haven’t enjoyed Pat these past two shows, but I think that’s mostly because 1, he only has a vague clue of what’s going on and hasn’t kept up with the product. And 2, he’s rusty and has been on his show mode opposed to broadcaster mode. I liked him before he left, just hoping he gets his bearings back.

Has anyone prior to Graves besides Monsoon done play by play that was an ex wrestler?
