What the heck is Shockmaster doing in this episode? It would be like doing an ep on Tom Zenk and having an extended segment on Rick Martel's Model gimmick. Fred Ottoman was Tenta's partner so it makes sense he's being interviewed

It will be interesting to see how they use Shockmaster with the Quake Dark Side. My guess is piece together both guys being good guys, good family men but getting crappy WCW gimmicks after the WWF Natural Disasters run. I feel it is really just their way of having a skit with Shockmaster's debut but Jason and Kevin always seem to be able to link things in a way that works.

Part of me wishes this was an episode on the Natural Disasters as a whole, but I get the focus on Tenta being more important. But given Ottman's history with Tenta, I can at least see why they'd do this now since there's probably never going to be a chance to re-inact the Shockmaster moment.

Haku reacts to the Shockmaster Haku's laugh needs to be a meme. I'm not risking making anything connected to Haku/Meng a meme. I like breathing.

Time being given to Shockmaster in an episode devoted to Tenta is silly.
And not normal Shockmaster silly.

Listening to the Droz podcast, Husney mentioned some stuff about the Tenta episode. this is going to feature a lot of his family and talk about his slow battle with Cancer. They got Ottman in to talk about the Natural Disasters and felt it would be their only chance to do the Shockmaster story.
Confirmed talking heads on the episode are Haku, Jerry Saggs, Earl Hebner, Jake Roberts, Fumi Saito. No mention of RD, but Husney said he wasn't planning to spoil much.

You know what the counter to that is? SHOCKMASTER IS NOT DARK SIDE OF THE FREAKIN' RING. It makes total sense they wouldn't get to cover it. DSotR didn't miss their window; they fell through the narrative wall. For sure I enjoyed the Haku clip. It's a fantastic outtake. An outtake.
I loved John as a kid. He's a favorite to this day. In an episode ostensibly made about him DSotR hired an actor and are a dedicating a five minute (?) chunk of time to something completely irrelevant to the man.

Yeah, you could say Tenta is borderline for Darkside, since everyone loved him and he died due to Cancer... as opposed to anything ring related, but alright. There's nothing "Dark" about Shockmaster... or as far as I'm aware Fred at all... he was a journeyman wrestler who was popular in one gimmick and not really popular outside of it... it happens.

Another preview talking about how John ended up working numerous jobs by the end of his career and the early signs of cancer.

They are skipping through a lot of stuff here, no mention of the Yokozuna feud, that was big because Yoko was the new monster heel, what Earthquake was in the early 90's, and no gimmick battle royal.

Vice is interesting, because you go from a massive sweetheart of the world of wrestling and a heartbreaking finish with his family…to a doc about Showgirls.

They spent seven minutes or so on only Ottman. There was a time I felt this ep was made as a vehicle for them to do Shockmaster.
That time is now.

You go from a nice family man like Tenta to Buff Bagwell, now that is a 180 turn.

Was a nice episode. Everything doesn't have to be shitty all the time, even on something called Dark Side.

Sad ending, but it's nice to hear about a genuinely good dude in wrestling like John Tenta.

I think it was a fine episode, but they fast forwarded way too much on his WCW run. Like, there was way more to the Shark and his Tenta run that they neglected. Like him having to change his tiger tattoo to a shark and him having to have his head half-shaved and stick to the gimmick. And I will say while I enjoyed the Shockmaster clip, it could have been cut to make the episode flow better. No disrespect to Ottmann, but I agree with that issue. R.D. elaborated that while he wasn't interviewed for the episode, he did offer audio from Wrestlecrap Radio when Tenta was around, which was where the audio with Tenta came from. He was happy with how the episode turned out.

I thought it was a very good episode at highlighting the type of man that John Tenta was.
Although that may have been placed better at a cool down between some of the really bad people that they’ll talk about later, I still enjoyed it and may have shed a few tears when his kids were talking about him.

I’m only like 15 minutes in. I’m having a hard time with this episode. John Tenta was a gem
