Chase Claypool in 2020. I remember this because he basically blew up Fantasy Football. In his fourth career game, he got 107 receiving yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 rushing touchdown. Since then, he's been alright but never came close to that game.

Good call. On a similar note, Kirk Shepherd at the World Darts Championship.

Ickey Woods. One season and that was pretty much it. But we still remember the Ickey shuffle to this day.

In 2006, Detroit Tigers 1B/OF Chris Shelton led the MLB in Dingers through the month of may
then got sent to the minors, never to hit the big leagues ever again after that.

1914 Boston Braves a team that always finished toward the bottom of standings then one year got hot won the pennant and swept the heavily favored A's in the World Series.
Tito Landrum was a reserve outfielder who was traded to the Orioles late in 1983 to help them in their division race. In the 10th inning of a scoreless tie in Game 4 of the ALCS Landrum hits a home run to send the Orioles to the World Series.

Jon Koncak aka "Jon Contract" is the biggest one I can think of. He wound up with one of the largest contracts in the entire NBA in 1989 based on basically one half of one good season. Higher than even the likes of Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, etc... He spent the rest of his career being a replacement level NBA rotation player at best (albeit a highly paid one).

Contractually obligated to remind everyone that Rick DiPietro is still getting paid a couple million dollars by the New York Islanders every season through like 2028. He's been retired since 2014 or so.

Not really 'one hit' as I think he had an Ok career overall, but I remember Kevin Maas with the Yankees being huge for about a month.

Jeff Ballard with the 1989 Orioles.
Went 18-8 with a 3.43 ERA and 23-45 for the rest of his career.

Not really 'one hit' as I think he had an Ok career overall, but I remember Kevin Maas with the Yankees being huge for about a month. He was a one hit wonder. Had 2 seasons where he hit 20 homers, and was out of the league in a few years. He got found out.

Not a full season one hit wonder, but Jerome James took an unexpected playoff run with the sounders where he averaged 12.5 points a game (he averaged just under 5 in the regular season) and the Knicks signed him to 5 year $30 million contract.... he started 20 games over 4 years averaging the following number of points; 3.9, 1.9, 2, and 3.
Sorry to any Knick fans that I brought that up in your memory

Malcolm Smith, Super Bowl MVP for the Seahawks David Tyree Chris Shelton for the Tigers hit 9 homers in the first 13 games of the 2006 season and did nothing after that I also thought of Chris Shelton.

Pastor Maldonado. Complete meme F1 driver for 99% of his career, except for the one time where he somehow won the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix from pole position, driving a Williams that hadn’t won in eight years and hasn’t won since. Only had one more top five finish in the rest of his F1 career. My sister-in-law is from Venezuela, and reckons he basically became a national hero for a while off the back of that.

David Clarkson. Had a 30 goal season for the Devils an ok one the next year in a shorten season then the Maple Leafs gave him a big contract for some reason.
