The skepticism is understandable because this is a match a lot of people have been waiting on and it being tossed out there on a random SD is already starting on the proverbial back foot. And with the shmoz at the end of the tag match ups that skepticism even more IMO. They’ve been putting big feature matches on SD for a while, though. And they’re usually seen as important, especially when they get announced 2+ weeks out. The counterpoint to that is that it's also about two weeks away from Fastlane, so one of four scenarios will happen most likely: A) We get a screwy finish setting up a rematch at Fastlane B) Iyo goes over, leaving her off the PLE card AGAIN C) Iyo goes over, but has to defend the title against Charlotte at Fastlane, where she likely loses it. D) Screwy finish, but they make it a triple threat match, inserting Charlotte into the mix. Of those three, option B is the most likely just because it seems pretty damn clear that the Rhea/Raquel feud isn't over with yet, despite the fact that its absolutely ice cold (and I don't think the match on Monday is ending clean, it'll continue the feud still). And Triple H doesn't like overly long PLE cards, and Iyo is very much seen as a lesser champion compared to Rhea, and it's pretty clear that Triple H is also trying his hardest to get Raquel over. Who is going to get more of the spotlight, despite the fact that they've been trying to get people to care about Raquel for over a year now and it's not working. This is also ignoring from an optics perspective, this has been one of the most anticipated matches in recent memory and one they've been teasing off and on for a year. So them throwing it away on a random Smackdown is really terrible. Not to mention the match quality is going to be automatically diminished because its on free TV, on a network that never does picture in picture, but for like every 5 minutes of in ring action, there are like 3 more minutes of ads to balance it out. Where if it was on a PLE, it would likely get 15 minutes at the minimum, with absolutely no commercial breaks.

Again though, “random” Smackdowns get feature matchups all the time that are important, especially since the PLEs have been streamlined. Heck, they’ve had Roman defend the title on Smackdown and be left off of the PPV the next day or next week. Edge’s big match against Sheamus. Gunther had a few hyped IC title matches main event Smackdown (and now Raw). Sometimes the tag titles have had that feature spot as well. Also it may be one of the most anticipated matches by a certain subset of fans, I wouldn’t say this is one of the most anticipated matchups to the audience at large.

An important match on Smackdown does not carry the same weight as a PLE match. It just doesn't. PLE matches get archived into HIStory. People talk about PLEs for years to come. There are Wikipedia pages for PLEs. People barely remember even the best of random TV matches. A PLE under-card match is a bigger deal than main eventing Smackdown.
So even if a match is not the most anticipated match, to the few who are anticipating, Smackdown is a downgrade from a PLE spot. Let's say the match is a stinker than not many people care about; they put those on PLEs under-cards all the time! So it's no surprise Asuka vs IYO fans are a little disappointed with, "We have women's wrestling at home".
Nothing has happened yet though. It might be a set up. In which case, everyone's griping is completely premature...but we have be burned many times before.

What I hope happens is it ends in a No Contest because Kairi Sane shows up and interfears, which sets up for a 3 way match on PLE.

Yea , earliest I expect to see KAIRI is when we are much closer to SVS if not at that show then the immediate SD after.

If the match happens and is great, it then moves on to be worrying about whether Iyo gets a match on the PLE. And if she does get a match at the PLE, it's worrying that she'll lose to Charlotte there. And if she doesn't lose at the PLE, it's then that they still see her as a lesser champion than Rhea. It seems a waste to be preemptively disappointed at a string of things that haven't happened.

There are lots of examples of matches that have happened on TV that are remembered more than undercard matches on a B-level PLE. We're not talking about WrestleMania here. Smackdown is the most watched wrestling show in the world by a long way. A featured match there is absolutely equal to being on the undercard of Payback.
