That explains why it quickly got nuked from the social media clips of the segment. And also shows that even the company knew it was a bad look, despite these defenses in here claiming it wasn’t a big deal and was just part of his “character.”

I'm assuming Carlito was going for the "dumb jock role". 20 years ago, this would've been laughed off. Now, not so much. If my assumption is correct, he met absolutely no harm by it and I don't think it's a big deal other than Carlito needing to understand the climate we all live in now. That would've been laughed off 20 years ago. Now, it's taken a lot more seriously. Now, if he ad-libbed that to be a jerk, than yes, it was a dick move. I absolutely would've chucked at this 20 years ago. I would've been in my mid-20s and we lived in a different world. Now, I just shake my head and say, "read the room, dummy". You just can't say something like that in this "climate" and not expect some type of repercussion... even if you were playing the "ignorant" role. If that's me "showing my a**".... so be it. I don't think it should've been said.... but I also don't think Carlito was being willfully ignorant and racist... at least I sincerely hope so.
