Here are my NXT Thoughts, Facts, & Stats:
Lyra Valkyria VS Blair Davenport was an excellent match to kick off New Years Evil for the Women's Title. I love that it got time with no commercial breaks or Picture-in-Picture. FACTS: This was the 1st Women’s Championship Match of 2024 & 1st since Lyra Valkyria VS Xia Li on NXT on November 21, 2023. This was Lyra Valkyria’s 1st NXT of 2024 & her 1st match since she & Nikkita Lyons lost to Blair Davenport & Cora Jade on December 12, 2023 & 1st 1-on-1 Match since she defeated Xia Li on November 21, 2023. This was Lyra Valkyria’s 2nd Women’s Championship Defense so if she would have lost, she would have been the 1st since Charlotte Flair who lost to Io Shirai at Takeover: In Your House on June 7, 2020 to lose in her 2nd Defense. As of NXT, Lyra Valkyria’s Women’s Championship Reign has lasted 70 Days, which is the Shortest Reign of All-Time below Indi Hartwell (4/1/23-5/2/23, 31 Days). This was Blair Davenport’s 1st NXT of 2024, her 1st match since she & Cora Jade defeated Nikkita Lyons & Lyra Valkyria on December 12, 2023 & her 1st 1-on-1 Match since she defeated Thea Hail on NXT on November 21, 2023. If Blair Davenport would have won, she would have been the 9th 1st-time Women’s Champion in a row & the 2nd Champion in a row to have the Women’s Championship as her 1st Championship in her Career. This was the 1st match in NXT History between an Irish woman & a New Zealand woman. The NXT Women’s Championship hasn’t changed hands in 2024, with the last title change taking place on NXT on October 26, 2023 when Valkyria defeated Becky Lynch. It has changed hands 20 times in History.

The LWO (Carlito, Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde) VS No Quarter Catch Crew (Myles Borne, Drew Gulak, & Damon Kemp) was a fun 6-Man Tag. FACT: This was the 1st 6-Person Tag Team Match of 2024 & 1st on NXT since December 12, 2023. This will be Carlito, Cruz Del Toro & Joaquin Wilde’s 1st NXT of 2024, Carlito’s 1st match since he lost to Bobby Lashley on Smackdown on November 10, 2023 & 1st on NXT since he, Christian, The Miz, & William Regal lost to Wade Barrett, Matt Hardy, CM Punk, & R-Truth on March 30, 2010 , Del Toro's 1st match since The LWO lost to The Street Profits on Smackdown on September 15, 2023, Wilde’s 1st match since he lost to Santos Escobar on Smackdown on December 1, 2023, & their 1st NXT match since they lost to The Dyad on August 23, 2022. This was Carlito’s 1st 6-Man Tag Team Match since he, Santos Escobar, & Rey Mysterio defeated Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits at Fastlane on October 7, 2023, Del Toro & Wilde’s 1st 6-Man Tag Team Match since The LWO lost to The Bloodline on Raw on April 24, 2023 & their 1st in NXT since they lost to The Family at In Your House on June 4, 2022. This will be Myles Borne, Drew Gulak, & Damon Kemp’s 1st NXT of 2024, Borne’s 1st NXT since he lost to Oba Femi on December 12, 2023, Gulak’s 1st NXT since he lost to Otis on November 7, 2023, Kemp’s 1st NXT since he lost a Battle Royal on October 17, 2023, & their 1st 6-Man Tag Team Match since Gulak, Kemp, & Charlie Dempsey defeated Borne, Josh Briggs, & Brooks Jensen on September 12, 2023.
Really, Trick Williams VS Grayson Waller instead. That sucks. I was really looking forward to Dragunov VS Williams. I guess I will just save my facts for when they do have the match in the future.

Roxanne Perez VS Arianna Grace was OK. I said I wasn't going to be negative anymore. I was not expecting Roxanne to snap like that & then the referee reversed the decision. FACTS: This was Roxanne Perez’s 1st NXT of 2024, her 1st NXT match since she lost a Fatal 4-Way Match to Fallon Henley on December 15, 2023, & 1st 1-on-1 match on NXT since she lost to Lash Legend on November 10, 2023. This will be the 1st time she is wrestling a 2nd generation wrestler in her Career. This will be Arianna Grace’s 1st NXT of 2024 & her 1st match since she defeated Karmen Petrovic on November 28, 2023. This was the 1st NXT of 2024 to have 2 Women's Matches & was the 1st DQ of 2024.

I don't want to be negative, but Fallon Henley VS Tiffany Stratton wasn't good at all. There were a lot of mistakes. As much as I think doing these storylines is antiquated, I think Tiffany as a ranch hand could be funny. FACTS: This was Fallon Henley’s 1st NXT of 2024 & 1st match since she defeated Tiffany Stratton on NXT on December 19, 2023. This was Tiffany Stratton’s 1st NXT of 2024 & her 1st match since she lost to Fallon Henley on NXT on December 19, 2023. This was the 7th 1-on-1 Match between them after NXT on December 28, 2021 (won by Stratton), March 8, 2022 (won by Henley), May 24, 2022 (won by Stratton), June 14, 2022 (won by Henley), November 7, 2023 (won by Stratton), & December 19, 2023 (won by Henley), so Henley won 4 & Stratton won 3.
Really, they're going to waste a spot in the Dusty Classic for Baron Corbin & Bron Breakker. Isn't the Dusty Classic supposed to be for up & coming teams not established wrestlers like them? Yes, Samoa Joe was in one & I didn't like it then either. Stupid.

OK segment with Gigi Dolin & Cora Jade to continue their feud.
This is really a good interview by Ridge Holland. It really gives him a character & makes him a human being.
After thinking about it, I went over the past Dusty Classics & there were a lot of established wrestlers in it. And there's not that many teams to be in it so they need other teams. Corbin & Breakker could be a fun team. So, forget what I said earlier.
Riley Osborne VS Oba Femi was an awesome match. I didn't have Femi as my winner as I like Osborne from his days in NXT UK, but Oba impressed me. I wouldn't mind a Dragunov VS Femi Match or Femi VS Williams. FACTS: This was Riley Osborne’s 1st NXT of 2024 & 1st match since he defeated Lexis King on December 26, 2023. This was Oba Femi’s 1st NXT of 2024 & 1st match since he defeated Tavion Heights on December 26, 2023. This was the only match between 2 wrestlers who wrestled on the last NXT of 2023 & the 1st NXT of 2024. This was the 1st match between an English wrestler & Nigerian wrestler in NXT.
No negativity, but I didn't like that promo by SCRYPTS & OTM against The Family.
Alright promo by Izzi Dame & Kiana James. They will start their year this Friday on Level Up.
Good segment with Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams.
Alright segment with Chase University. Hudson & Osborne could be a great team in the Dusty Classic.
Weird segment with Lyra Valkyria & Tatum Paxley.
Axiom & Nathan Frazer will be an awesome team. I like them against Malik Blade & Edris Enofe.
I have no comment about that segment with The Family & Joe Gacy. At least the girl with Tony D'Angelo & Stacks has a name, Adrianna, a complete ripoff of The Sopranos.
Next week's NXT will be another good one with a lot of great matches scheduled.
Trick Williams VS Grayson Waller was an amazing match. It wasn't the match that I was expecting or looking forward to when I woke up this morning, but I loved it. I also wasn't expecting my favorite Kevin Owens to show up. FACTS: This was Trick Williams’ 1st NXT match & main event of 2024, 1st match since he won the Iron Survivor Challenge Match at Deadl1ne on December 9, 2023, & 1st match on NXT TV since he defeated Joe Coffey on November 14. This was the 1st time that Trick Williams wrestled an Australian wrestler in his Career. This was Grayson Waller's 1st NXT match & main event of 2024, his 1st match overall since he lost to Carmelo Hayes on Smackdown on December 15, 2023, & 1st on NXT since he lost to Carmelo Hayes on April 25, 2023. This was the 1st ever match between 2 Iron Survivors.
The only wrestlers to wrestle on the 1st NXT of 2023 & 2024 are Drew Gulak & Trick Williams.

New Years Evil was excellent. Though it was a bait & switch & we didn't get the match that I have been waiting for for months, the replacement was still excellent. The other matches were mostly good. There were a few things I didn't like, but I won't be negative.

Here's a brief summary of my POV on this week's NXT  - Tatum Paxley preventing Lola Vice from cashing in on her breakout contract to save her beloved - 2 thumbs up - Davenport v Valkyria - 2 thumbs up - Williams v Waller - 2 thumbs up - Osborne promo - Meh - Perez v Grace - 1 thumb up - Perez snapping - 2 thumbs up (I dig crazy chicks  ) - Dusty Classic announcement - Meh but mostly because it's not exactly a shock to me I guess. Still looking forward to it though - Henley v Stratton - 1 thumb up - Stratton having to clean up manure - 2 thumbs up - Corbin and Breakker being a team - 1 thumb up - Oba Femi promo - Meh - Dolin and Jade segment - 1 thumb up - Holland interview - 1 thumb down - Osborne v Femi - 1 thumb up - Thea's reaction to the high-five with Osborne - 2 thumbs up - SCRYPTS and OTM promo against The Family - Meh - Dame/James promo - Meh - Hayes/Williams segment - 1 thumb up - Chase University segment - 1 thumb up - Segment with Valkyria/Paxley - 2 thumbs up - KO appearance - 2 thumbs up just because I wasn't expecting it and I still have soft spot for him as he was one of my favourite characters till they kinda killed his character for me when he got squashed by Goldberg a few years ago now, just hasn't been the same since IMO. - LWO v No Quarter Catch Crew - 1 thumb up I'll give the first NXT of 2024 a 9 out of 10. Awesome way to start the year for NXT. Between tonight's NXT and last night's RAW, WWE has started off very well so far this year IMO from an entertainment standpoint if nothing else . Enjoyed being on the thread guys and girls See you all on the SmackDown thread, well those that go on it that is! |
