And I don't even think that's really on Abrams so much as it's Rian Johnson throwing out damn near every thread setup in TFA like Michael Scott doing improv, and then Abrams having to somehow salvage things. He still could have tried to salvage it a lot better than he did... I'll be curious what the presumed Filoni Master Plan is to salvage the salvaging so that Star Wars can actually move forward again vs continuing to awkwardly stuff things between ROTJ and TFA.... actually heck that's almost the literal opposite of the Star Trek lost era issue.

He still could have tried to salvage it a lot better than he did... Colin Trevorrow's story would have been better than that cynical, shameless attempt to pacify the people who hated Last Jedi, and I will die on that hill. It still probably wouldn't have been good, but it wouldn't have been anywhere near as bad as the turd we got.

Whether you love it or hate it, at least Rian Johnson was trying to steer things in a different direction. Maybe Trevorrow's movie would've been absolute dogshit, who knows? But a bad movie that at least makes sense would've been better then TRoS

I could see them plotting out time between Jedi and Skywalker...
