I think it all happened too quickly to be a work. This is exactly why I think it's a pivot too. If it was all a work it would have taken multiple shows and PPV's to to create drama and hit story points. Instead it warped/changed at breakneck speed to try and salvage any good will the WWE has at the moment.

Definite pivot but they got lucky and fell ass backwards into something big, as they tend to do really.

Pivot, but at the time I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was a work. I just never believed that Rock vs. Roman was going to go down at WM.

I don’t know how anyone could think the whole thing was a work. "Daniel Bryan winning the title at WrestleMania was the plan the whole time!"

I really don’t know if we’ll ever know the truth to this.

I think it was a pivot. That said, I think there was going to be something that happened at Mania that was going to lead to heel Rock.

Cody literally said "I want to take everything from you....but not at WrestleMania". No chance he says that and then 6 days later we get what we got without there being a massive change in direction.
Ultimately it worked out, and Rock as a heel is going to be great, so it is what it is. Now they will just build towards Roman/Rock at WM 41 instead of 40. I do wonder what their plan for the title would have been if the fans hadn't revolted against Rock and they actually did Rock/Roman at 40. Roman probably holds the belt until next year in that scenario. Now they've booked it to where he pretty much has to lose to Cody.

Not just a pivot.
The most panicked quick pivot I can recall WWE doing in a quarter of a century.

That part I didn't get either as Cody never addressed why he said that on Smackdown a couple of weeks ago. I think WWE thought the fans would be so excited with Rock vs. Roman that they would forget about Cody and it backfired, so they had to pivot to the original story with Cody vs. Roman 2 at Mania. Glad it worked out in the end with Cody getting his chance at redemption and hopefully winning the title this time.

they completely f***ed a sure thing up and spent two unnecessary weeks clamming up so everybody else could pretend they might have meant it, they're dummies, they always have been

It’s telling that the first part of Cody’s promo (“I want to take everything from you”) is directly mentioned by Seth last night, but the other half (“…but not at Wrestlemania”) is treated like he never said it. That should tell you right away we got a pivot.

I'm stunned the argument that it was a work has gained so much traction.
It was a pivot from a colossal screw-up. The pivot ultimately may have lead to a better and more interesting story, but it's still a course-correction to cover the screw-up.

They pivoted to f*** after they shit themselves because the fans rightly called them out on the bollocks on smack down.

I think if "but not at Wrestlemania" never happened then it'd be a real possibility it was a work.
I don't think we'll ever know 100%, even if someone involved says something it's not like we're all gonna believe them.
The important thing is the right match is happening and with a hell of a lot more intrigue and attention than it would have originally.
Whether they planned it or fell on their ass into it doesn't really matter.

Seems like either a pivot or a work that they rushed to the ending on due to unexpected fan reaction. The part that makes me question if it’s a complete pivot is Cody winning the Rumble when Punk was clearly being set up to face Rollins.

it was 6 days later everybody It’s a pretty fast pivot in context, compared to you saying they “unnecessarily clammed up for two weeks”
