Let's be honest, is him beating Roman even that impressive? It's not like Roman's some unstoppable force—he's a f***ing cheater! Let Cody show that bitch how it's done. It's just what he deserves.

I'm not entirely sure it matters THAT much. Like, from between Shawn Michaels in 1996 to Brock Lesnar in 2002, spanning the entire hottest period in the history of wrestling, not ONE person won their first WWF/WWE Championship completely cleanly and unquestioned:

Sycho Sid: Hit Shawn Michaels with a TV camera. Does win off of own move
Steve Austin: Mike Tyson fast count, but it was after his own move. Probably the actually cleanest win on this list as it can be chalked down to Tyson being over-enthusastic and vaguery over if an enforcer is the same as a referee
Kane: Won off of Undertaker's chair shot causing blood for Austin
The Rock: Beat-for-beat remake of the Montreal Screwjob
Mankind: Won off of Austin's chair shot
Triple H: Crooked referee Shane McMahon and chair shots. Does win off of own move
Vince McMahon: Complete clusterf***, won off of Austin's stunners
Big Show: Vince hit Triple H with the belt and counted the fall, despite not being the referee. Does win off of own move
Kurt Angle: Outside interference from Triple H and Rikishi. Does win off of own move
Chris Jericho: Outside interference from Booker T (after already getting outside interference from Vince in the first match to get to the unification match)

As long as Rhodes wins off his own move, I'm not completely fussed if it ends up being an overbooked mess beforehand. A lot of this sounds like it's less for him and more catharsis for US.

Yeah but the commentary has somehow instead of pointing that out and being mad has gone into... but he gets results!
