Am I the only one that thought this episode was fine? It seemed more like a "classic" Nerd episode since it was mainly just a straight forward reviw without a bunch of cutaways and skits. I'll say while it's not the AVGN of old there's been a noticeable upturn in quality since Mike came back to write and the Screenwave guys left.

I wasn’t completely wowed by their contributions to AVGN, but I did enjoy Rental Reviews. Granted, it’s been a while since I watched one of that series.

This game was awful (Goonies 2) when I was 7-8 I used to just think I was bad at video games I didn’t think they’d make somewhat broken games that were poorly constructed

Maybe the Nerd needs to start doing some PS1 games now since he's scraping the bottom of the Nintendo barrel. There's a lot of good material there for him--one on Simpsons Wrestling would be a good episode. There's actually plenty of NES era games he could still review and get good material out of, I mean even some of his all time best episodes included games that are actually good games such as Zelda 2, Batman, Street Fighter 2010, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Ninja Gaiden, Who Framed Roger Rabbit? and Metal Gear. There's dozens or more games in that same 'good' category that might have kinks to the gameplay or something of that nature, but it really comes down to his overall mindset. I haven't watched for a while, in fact the last episode I watched was the Dial of Destiny episode, and since it did leave on what I would consider a high note, I figured I would move on. I think it's pretty clear by now that AVGN is no longer a passion project, and is simply a lucrative job that James has next to no passion for, but continues the charade since it makes him the most money. Honestly, I think his last truly good episode was the Amiga 32 CD Part 1. Since then it's been mostly been paint by numbers, but hey...he's making money so...that's his prerogative.

' he did the original TMNT

Rental Reviews has been done for some time I think. Seems like a couple years now.

At least it didn't involve his stupid mouth breathing neighbor that he has a series with now.

Its a pity James isn't familiar with the British microcomputer gaming scene of the 80s and early 90s. There's loads of bad and baffling releases there that would be fun to see him check out.

Yeah Rental Reviews with the old school video set was a solid series that I looked forward to

AVGN is an Egghead. I don't say that to be petty, the balder he gets the more I see that his head is shaped exactly like an egg.

I just realized we're so full circle now that James is reviewing games that the Irate Gamer reviewed first.

In that case I will be mildly disappointed if he doesn't cosplay as Vincent Price's Egghead from the 60's series the next time he reviews a bad Batman game (And there is a few he has yet to touch on like Batman and Robin, Dark Tomorrow and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker just to name a few.)

IIRC, the Screenwave people simply moved to working behind the scenes rather than being front-facing as extra characters on Nerd episodes or doing things like Rental Reviews. They’re still around, but just not as prominent on-screen presences.
