An All Elite Wrestler has faced a suspension, and it isn’t their first.
Fightful Select has learned that All Elite Wrestling mainstay Sammy Guevara is now serving a suspension in connection to the February 14 match he had against Jeff Hardy. During the match, Jeff Hardy sustained an injury, and concussion protocol was not followed, which resulted in Sammy Guevara hitting his finisher on Hardy, which we’re told shouldn’t have happened.
We haven’t been given specifics on how long the suspension is, or additional details. Guevara did end up working a No DQ match with Powerhouse Hobbs after the Hardy match.
There is no timetable for Hardy’s return.
We've reached out to Sammy for comment, which wasn't immediately returned.

That does indeed suck, but on the positive side, gets to spend a little more time at home being a new father

This is a really weird story. Sammy's been suspended for hitting his finisher on a concussed Hardy? Surely it's not up to the wrestlers in the match to decide whether their opponent is safe to continue with the match. Isn't that what doctors and referees are for? Sure, wrestlers need to look out for their opponent but I'd hope Sammy isn't the only one getting heat for this.

Conspiracy theorists will be busy beavers with you know who due to debut in Boston in a couple of weeks but I think this is because Sammy has form for this kind of carelessness (with the other Hardy) so this is his second warning which warrants a suspension and had a wrestler with no such record injured Jeff in the same way (it looked to be poor luck rather than bad judgement IMO) they would not have been punished.

I've been there. I got suspended twice in middle school.

Didn't he apologize to Mercedes and Mercedes accepted? People need to get a life (including me, but I'm not coming up with these stupid theories)

This story doesn't make sense to me. Unless Sammy refused to follow the ref's instruction, I don't know what he should have done other than just be better at hitting his move? But you probably shouldn't suspend people for screwing a move up given how often it's bound to happen in wrestling.

Sammy shouldve won it with a crucifix pin instead of using his finisher....

I haven't seen the match, but maybe he didn't give the ref ample time to assess the situation? The thing that irks me though is the fact that he had another match after the fact.

Honestly I wouldn't have suspended him for this. If anything Paul Turner should have stopped the match when Jeff got smashed in the face off the shooting star.

The only way this story makes a whole lot of sense to me is if there's protocol in place that, where a head injury is presumed, the wrestler is supposed to back off and not touch the opponent and Sammy failed to follow that protocol.
Even then, that's a really slippery slope for wrestlers who are trained to make the match feel as "real" as possible, and adapt on the fly to botches and seems like it would be extremely hard to enforce. There was a match not too long ago where Moxley seemed to very clearly get his bell rung on a dive to the outside, for example, and I'm not sure his opponent (I think it was Fenix) even really gave the ref a chance to check up on him.
EDIT: Yeah, ok, the post above mine makes sense.

The match is on YouTube, so I went back to it. After the SSP, they were both down for a minute and the ref checked on Jeff. They went to the finish shortly thereafter. Apparently, this isn't the 1st time someone's been concussed in a match with sammy?

Wouldn’t that be more on the referee for not stopping the match though?

Also to be clear, Jeff did not suffer a concussion. He suffered a broken nose. The issue seems to be that there was not enough time to make that determination there.

The only way Sammy is responsible is if Paul Turner instructed him to just to for a quick pin to end the match and Sammy didn't listen. Also didn't stop Sammy from wrestling until now.
This is really weird.

The write up in the first post doesn't make it clear why the fault lay with Sammy and not everybody else.

So who knows if there’s any heat there still.

Sammy’s days are numbered in AEW, although I’m not sure why this isn’t on the referee as well.

The post was updated with a bit more:
An All Elite Wrestler has faced a suspension, and it isn’t their first.

There were some that thought Guevara's lack of selling after the Hobbs match could have contributed to the suspension, but we haven't confirmed as much
For those asking about the referee's role, we haven't heard of any disciplinary action in that regard as of yet.
There is no timetable for Hardy’s return.
Guevara has been suspended in the past, including for offensive comments made prior to his AEW run, and had some time off in conjunction with a fight with Andrade, though we haven't been told that was a formal suspension.
We've reached out to Sammy for comment, which wasn't immediately returned.
