Reposting what I said in the other thread.
I watched a couple of clips on YouTube, and, I'm not seeing how Nickelodeon recovers from this.

Reposting what I said in the other thread. I watched a couple of clips on YouTube, and, I'm not seeing how Nickelodeon recovers from this. I doubt it'll sink the brand, if only because SpongeBob is an infinite money cheat, but it is definitely going to hurt their standing. And they're definitely spooked by it judging by them pushing the Kids Choice Awards all the way back to July.

I don't think Nickelodeon will go out of business, but their reputation might be permanently damaged.

I've heard about staff and writers getting underpaid, but never having to split a salary

Ask yourself why Victoria Justice has hardly worked since the end of Victorious and then watch episode one.

How in the hell did some of this stuff ever get on tv? Watching episode 4 and this shit is just gross. A grown ass man wrote and shot this stuff. Who on on earth in management thought that was okay and let him get away with it?

Disclaimer: I haven't see any of it yet.
But I'm seeing a lot of "Ohhh. THIS helps to explain Amanda Bynes' struggles" on social media

Isn’t Drake Bell pretty much an unreliable narrator? That being said, there’s already plenty of smoke around Dan Schneider. The fact Dan Schneider hasn't been named yet is bizarre to me. Maybe he didn't actually do anything, but there is so much creepy weird shit that I find it hard to believe. Edit: Posted this without realising the first episode was out and apparently Dan features.

The impression the whole thing gave me is that Schneider isn't quite Brian Peck levels of awful, but does definitely have weird, creepy issues with boundaries and age, on top of just being a general control freak and massively misogynistic.

Dan is pretty much the main focus of the series. Episode 1 and some of episode 2 are about him. Episode 2 focuses though on Nickelodeon employees who actually were convicted and must register as sex offenders which takes some focus off Dan since he never was or has. Episode 3 specifically focuses mostly on the Drake Bell situation and then episode 4 brings the emphasis back to Dan. It’s great that the series exist to draw attention to these problematic issues. But its a mixed bag since it can just come off as lurid entertainment. Also, for those who watched it think of all the people that benefitted from Dan’s actions that 0 percent of the series was spent on and weren’t even named. Dan is a convenient boogeyman, but he’s far from the only piece of shit Nickelodeon ever hired.

Yeah, I used be in the "Amanda Bynes is just some lunatic junkie that Corey Feldman'd her career" boat. And then after seeing stories about all the shit that she and other kid actors went through on Nickelodeon, I totally get it.

Started and finished it last night.
Felt like watching Hollywood Babylon III. Well if HB was more acurate and less stories Kenneth had been told and believed.
The Brian Peck stuff has been out for over years. Pretty sure he was mentioned in that now forgotten Feldman documentary.

Also, An Open Secret (free to watch legally online) came out 10 years ago and goes into detail about the Brian Peck stuff. Drake Bell sharing his experience is new though. It’s a problem as old as Hollywood as Jackie Coogan was being exploited literally over 100 years ago. It’s great that projects like this pop up to draw attention to some problems that unfortunately may never be completely stamped out. I just wish it wasn’t sensationalized to the point where parts of it come off like lurid entertainment. Like Drake Bell’s interview being hyped as his first time ever sharing his experience. Or the producer (Kate Taylor) and consultant (Scaachi Koul) having talking head segments to emphasize different things. All the interviewees have a reason to be there and the evidence presented throughout makes a compelling enough argument.

It's like the Cosby stuff, I was hearing about that in 98 and 99 online. Or the R Kelly shit. We were hearing stories about him in 94. Some times people don't want to believe it until it is RIGHT in their faces. Hell when #speakingout happened 1 of the people named was someone i saw often. Talked to often. And yea the clues were there all the time. We all just assumed REDACTED was staying a bit in gimmick all the time. And like the one guy said in the docuseries He put up with alot cause he kew he was his family's only shot to get out of a bad situation.

Ron Melendez wrote a letter about Brian Peck's "lapse in judgement".
HE CALLED SEXUALLY ABUSING A MINOR FOR OVER A YEAR A "LAPSE IN JUDGEMENT".
NOT LOOKING BOTH WAYS BEFORE CROSSING THE STREET IS A LAPSE IN JUDGEMENT. SEXUALLY ABUSING A MINOR IS A F***ING CRIME.
