Probably for the best. If Rock took a stunner he'd probably have torn every muscle in his body flying over the ring.

It's a good bookend. Undertaker debuted destroying Dusty Rhodes and his team at Survivor Series 1990. Now, at WrestleMania 40, he helps Cody Rhodes finish the story.

I was surprised by no Austin, but that Undertaker guy is also kind of a big deal in WWE history. And completely unrelated to the Bloodline or Rock. BUT Roman did beat him at one 'Mania, and he never got even 'till now

Dustin or Austin would have made more sense to me, but as people mentioned Austin was probably not available...and Dustin was probably not allowed.

After thinking about it, it makes way more sense than Austin, because Undertaker actually has history with Roman Reigns and is one of the most important people in the history of Wrestlemania.
Also I see people saying they teased Austin. Did they? When? I’ve watched most Raws and Smackdowns for weeks and don’t recall them teasing it at all.

They may not have explicitly, but there were some “open to interpretation” moments. During the Rock/Cody parking lot brawl, the camera showed one of the production trucks that had a clear picture of Austin and Cena on it. And Triple H sent out a tweet yesterday precisely at 3:16 PM.

Can someone please fill me in on the Austin hints? I've been watching, but on a bit of autopilot since Royal Rumble, so I'm pretty confused Basically there was a truck with Austin and Cena on it very conspicuously in the background during Rock beating down Cody, Triple H put out a tweet earlier about the match at exactly 3:16, the show was in Philadelphia like Mania 15 and they brought up that connection several times, and Punk did the, "Gimme a hell yeah!" bit on the preshow. Nothing concrete but kind of enough of a pattern that people were taking notice of it. Plus during the night one broadcast Cody used the word Shatter. What shatters? Glass.

i was calling it all week before the match but i don't blame people for being all "WTF?" about it. put yourself in the mindset that wrestlemanias are their own shows/storylines completely separate from the TV shows and every bone in my body told me he'd show up. roman was a completely different character but he had the gall to say it was his yard now and "retired" him at the time. guess again bitch!!!! Also Taker was THE Final Boss of WWE for basically his entire time there... it's basically what the streak was based on once they started acknowledging it. yeah... I wanted Austin, but Taker was the guy that had that "Final Boss" type feel in his career and had the story with Roman and, don't forget, Yokozuna. It made perfect sense.

Still think it would have made a lot more sense if all the people Roman had wronged during his reign that were faces at least ie Sami, KO, Orton, LA Knight, Lashley, Big E even etc would have been better than Undertaker if they couldn't get Austin to do it. Beats everyone trying to stretch to find stretches to include Undertaker like "he was the real final boss!" or "hey remember when Roman said it was his yard one time 8 years ago on Raw after a match absolutely nobody wants to remember?"

Austin makes more narrative sense but if you just kind of look at it like "hey, it's the 40th WrestleMania and this guy never got his actual sendoff in front of fans," I was willing to just take it for being a cool popcorn moment.

I was disappointed at first but it’s probably the right call. I feel like an Austin would of taken some shine off Cody

I liked Taker, it was a shock and it makes sense logically as he has a reason to dislike Roman and so a reason to want to help Cody.
Also its a nice little bow on The Deadman's career, his first appearance he was made by Dusty Rhodes (if Dusty didn't sell as he did the Taker character would have been DOA) and potentially his last major moment was helping his son.
