Personally I think it’s silly to have 2 World titles in the first place. Whether it’s the Old World Heavyweight title, the new one or the Universal. The WWE Championship should be the ONLY World Championship. There should only be one Women’s and Tag title too. I hate this two belt bulls**t. I’d also unify the IC and US titles but if the networks insist on this brand split then I’d keep both titles. While I agree with you, that isn't likely ever going to be the case. They tried it, and within a couple years they created another title. The Universal title isn’t even its own belt anymore, it only exists in name only, and even then, on SmackDown, they keep referring to Cody as the Undisputed WWE Champion, there’s no Universal title to be put on the line anymore. Just keep the World Title and have the Universal name fade away quietly Then you run into the same problem as before. Which title is more valuable? The WWE title or the World title? Obviously, we know the answer to that. So once again, you have to build up the credibility of a title with long title reigns or the top stars. As it stands, even the Universal title is vastly more prestigious than the World title. Eh. IMO at least Priest’s title actually looks like a World Title and looks more prestigious than the Universal Title regardless which one has been around longer.

I agree with the belt design, which is why I suggested my initial idea. At least belt designs can be changed, lineages can't.

With a new era, one can make the argument for merging the titles from both brands at this point. WWE is no longer beholden to the networks as it might have been in the past.

Honestly I think the World title looks a million times more hokey than the WWE title does. The random generic swirly design with the generic WORLD CHAMPION text and giant off-color WWE logo makes it look like a cheap accessory that'd come with an action figure.

As long as Cody doesn't replace the belt with a ring again I'm good with whatever.

Maybe they will decide to have all 3 world titles? Cody could decide to "gift" the Universal title to Seth or Sami (although it would be really cheap way for Sami to get his first world title).

Honestly, meh. I don't really care if it no longer exists. Probably for the best really.

Imo, it’s just one title with a over-complicated name. Just call it what it really is. It’s the WWE Championship I don't think any two people have called it the same thing once since Cody Rhodes won on Sunday night. I've heard "WWE Champion," "Undisputed WWE Champion," "WWE Universal Champion," "Undisputed Universal Champion," and just about every other possible combination of the words "Undisputed," "WWE," "Universal," and "Champion."

They called it the Undisputed WWE championship on Smackdown, a bunch of guys called it the WWE title..but Cody’s nameplate had “Universal” in it. So I think they’re still up in the air if or when they’ll quietly drop the Universal part. But I imagine it’ll be like when they considered the NXT women’s title a world championship for Charlotte for like a year, then dropped that idea all together and never brought it up again.

Trick with that is that it's literally written on the belt (yes, it's small text but still) So they'd either have to redo the belt slightly to change that text or they stick with the "Undisputed".

In the context that I presented? Yeah, that can be complicated. But this isn't something you'd have to do overnight. It just seems really silly to get rid of the Universal title after spending 8 years building it up, only to keep around the relatively new World title that was seen as a consolation prize because no one could beat Roman. I agree except for uniting the IC and US belts. Imo those belts are more interesting than the WWE/World/Universal/whatever titles just because their lineages are straightforward and can be traced back almost 50 years. The US belt is also, as far as I know, the last active title with an intact, uninterrupted lineage that traces back to WCW and the NWA.

Yeah, they are both ugly, and will continue to be ugly so long as they insist on the logo being the most prominent feature of the belts. Why they can't design their World belts with the same approach as the IC, US, and tag belts is beyond me.

The thing with all this chat about lineages and titles is that so much of it rests on… simply editing the f***ing website. Like, if they just moved over the post-2010 history of the tag titles (I think they’re the RAW ones now) and put it on the page of the original tag titles, then that would be part of that lineage because there is literally nothing else that says that it is or it isn’t. The only time they’ve implied a new lineage is them calling Rollins the “inaugural” World Heavyweight Champion, which implies that it’s not part of the 2002-2013 lineage for the belt of the same name.

It's also on the women's belt for some reason and that just kind of goes unacknowledged.

As much as I don't like the current WWE logo, I think it could work much better on the current WHC design if the color didn't clash so badly. Make the globe and logo a shade of gold and i think it'd look great. Current WWE Undisputed belt is fuggo though and I hope Cody can get his way and deliver on an updated version of the Winged Eagle belt.

It's also on the women's belt for some reason and that just kind of goes unacknowledged. Only reason for that is to mirror the design of Cody’s belt. Which is why I don’t see them changing the design of the WWE Title anytime soon if all the Woman’s Titles are supposed to mirror the World Titles of their respective brands

The only reason it hadn't been retired earlier was because it was the belt Reigns won first, and it was more impressive to talk about the length of that reign. Now we can retire it and ignore it.
