They are remaking the Naked Gun...too soon. OJ just passed away. The next Nordberg's gonna have some big cleats to fill.

They should try to get Khali to be the new Ed (the real tall cop whose face you never saw).

I'm going to give this movie a chance because if anyone can maybe channel what Leslie Nielsen did in the original (and in Police Squad), I think Liam Neeson might just be able to. That one scene he did in Ted 2 gives me hope. I remember seeing that for the first time and laughing my a** off because it was super serious Liam Neeson.

Yeah, I'd have given it a chance whether Cody was in it or not because I do like Liam Neeson and agree that given how straight-faced Neeson is and how straight-faced Nielsen was I think it could work. Though it will be weird seeing Neeson in a spoof but then I suppose it must've weird for people older than me to see Nielsen in spoofs after he was a ''straight'' actor for so long apparently.

The movie just feels miscasted
Neeson has his moments but he and Leslie Nielson don't have a lot in common. Liam in his early years was a serious Shakesperian actor but has done more Action films. Leslie had done nothing but Drama and Sci-Fi/Horror prior to Airplane, which is where he finally established his comedic side but still acting straight.
I feel like a modern Frank Drebin would be Steve Carell or Nicholas Cage.
Same for Pam Anderson in the Priscilla Pressley role. But I'm not sure off hand who fits that part.
Cody Rhodes while he's been around isn't the star Reggie Jackson was by the time of Naked Gun. Reggie on the Angels wasn't great sure, but he'd been a top guy in baseball for well over a decade by the time Naked Gun came out, stemming from his tenure with the Yankees in the 1970s.
I feel like John Cena would be more appropriate if we are looking for a wrestler instead of a baseball player.

He was on Arrow one time. I don't recall him being memorably good or bad. *shrug* He was, at least, properly cast as a villain. Guy has no range. Just like his promos

Yeah, Leslie Nielson was chosen because he was a dramatic straight faced serious actor. So him reacting to all the weirdness of the movie as if everything was completely normal was part of the joke. It's also why a lot of his later movies didn't work as well because they had him lean too much into the joke.

I feel like I heard Ed Helms was considered to play Drebin during the early days of rumors of a reboot.

Also, instead of being crushed by a large woman, Cody should be knocked out via a rubber chicken (it's the kind of goofy joke you'd see in those movies, so even non-fans would like the joke).
