As an update on Ryohei Oiwa's excursion in NOAH, his team with current GHC Heavyweight Champion Kaito Kiyomiya has effectively ended, as Kaito formed a new unit called All Rebellion without inviting him to join. However, Oiwa bounced back from that by going to an unexpected 30 minute time limit draw with Go Shiozaki yesterday. The match itself wasn't great (not awful either - just OK), but it was still a notable booking decision for another company's young lion to take the former Ace in Shiozaki to a draw. I would assume that it's a turning point for him, but still expect him to stick around in NOAH a bit more before returning to New Japan.
No notes from me on today's show, except the KUSHIDA/Ishimori ending was flat to the point that it felt like an error.
For the Dominion title match stuff, I do believe it is a successful defense by Moxley to set up his title match at Forbidden Door (Naito or ZSJ are my current guesses).

Kushida doubled his point total from last year His booking last year in the tournament was asinine. First time having the guy who was your top junior for years back in the group and they just jobbed him out like nothing. Wins over him would have mattered last year if they did a couple big ones. So of course they book him strong now that theyβve wasted that.

Akira is out on Tuesday with his knee injury, missing a tag bout. He will be reevaluated and New Japan will confirm if heβs able to compete in any further league matches. Tough blow for the kid if heβs unable to continue, but if things go well for him, he can enter BOSJ for another 20 years.

The BOSJ Final officially being the main event of Dominion doesn't bother me. It's the better match judging by native fan reaction, and that should wake the company up in terms of understanding what their audience wants to see. Get the goddamn belt off Moxley at Forbidden Door (or give it to EVIL at this point I actually don't care), and take stock of the talent you have. Yes, the yen is weak so Western cash flow is a big help right now, but let's face it - they probably have the least amount of subscribers/money coming from the West in nearly a decade. NOAH and All Japan have also fallen under the spell of bringing in gaijin talent to appeal to potential non-native fans, and buddy it ain't working for either of them. No one cares and no one wants to see these people. There's a reason Desperado, House of Torture and LIJ are the biggest merchandise movers - they are entertaining native talents that appeal to the modern native fan. Make your money there and leave the rest as tertiary/etc. focuses. Credit to the War Dogs though, who I know have also sold big lately, likely on the back of Gabe's growing popularity. Those boys (minus Finlay) have earned their love. It's hard to believe that Gabriel " Looks like a child but is always a jobber to me" Kidd has actually gotten as good as he has. AXS aired him and Shingo this week and hooooooly shit what a war. He should be leading War Dogs, but Gedo's still all "go down with the ship" re: Finlay. If only he'd realize that ship sank and just let it go. And no, putting the title on EVIL is a horrible idea. It hasn't been that long since his shit NEVER reign finally finished. Gabe seemed like he was really starting to first come into his own when he was doing the whole "Young Boy of Great Bash Heel" thing. I'm not surprised he's getting even better.
