What is up with all of these programs that are advertised to delete a persons internet history ? Why would anyone pay for these program when anyone can just click delete history and delete cookies for free ?

well, you can do that, but traces of it still linger on your hard drive that, if someone had those FBI-level programs, could find it.
Again, on the .001% chance someone wants to search your computer that bad, you might need something like that.

I want to just clear out my internet history by the given options. I don't watch any "illegal" porno. I am just clearing it off because my whole family uses the computer.

I don't want to delete the wrong temp files. There are temporary internet files and temp files.

There should be a way to delete the temporary internet files on the same tab when you delete cookies.

Click tools, click internet options, right next to "delete cookies" is "delete temp files"...delete those. You're in your browser, so it's internet files.
It doesn't matter if you delete temp files anyway, their just temp files and if you ever do a disk cleanup, they're the first to go. It won't affect your machine to do this, other than make it run faster by clearing up memory.

for one, your screen resolution looks like it's amazingly small.. increase that and you'll get more space on your screen to play with things.

Clear your "cache" which appears next to cookies.
Not familiar with your browser, but check download history, there's probably shit in there which can be deleted, such as temp files or such and such.

To answer the original question, 99% of the programs they solicit that claim to clean your net history are nothing more than scams. Very often they are laced with spyware and put stuff on your computer as it removes other parts that you could just as well have done yourself the way the other posters here have indicated.

Consider downloading and installing CCleaner: www.ccleaner.com/It cleans out, among other things, temp files and internet history (various browsers) with one click. It has a secure delete option as well. I use it to clean at startup.
