The fact that pubs need to ban football colours is wild. I'll admit that I don't really follow sports, but to imagine that people are so problematic that wearing certain colours could cause fights or disruptions to the levels that they're banned is just...damn. Insane. In the case of Rangers and Celtic it's as much about other factors as it is about sports rivalry. Even the other factors feel wild to me. However, I recognize that even the other factors are multifaceted and layered and not just a matter of religious preferences. That said, I was equating the football thing with hooligans. Knowing there are other factors, it makes more sense.

This may seem like an extremely silly post, but if you’re Scottish you might see where I’m coming from. Drew McIntyre has been posting about visiting Ranger’s (Scottish football team) home turf Ibrox on social media. He’s often talked about Rangers and his new shirt has Rangers colours which even made the Scottish press, with some people saying it’s the first wrestling shirt they’ve ever seen you wouldn’t be allowed into a pub in wearing (Scottish pub rules - NO football colours, ever). So not only is he potentially alienating a good portion of the audience, he could genuinely be inviting behaviour that now gets you banned from attending football games; namely singing Sectarian songs which instantly cause shit. I don’t watch football but I’ve seen enough idiots, green and blue, getting into fights over anything Celtic/Rangers related to know Drew really could cause bad shit in the crowds at Clash in the Castle. We shall see. Drew has never hidden the fact he’s a big Rangers fan. Neither has Grado (and to a lesser extent Noam Dar) and I don’t think it’s caused any issues with any of them.

With the Euros starting tonight, if they wanna talk about football then just talk about the national team

Wrestling is fake.
And if a guy wearing a sports jersey from the wrong team is enough to cause a riot then maybe that's not a place that should be getting wrestling showS.

I doubt it. I imagine there will be a lot of fans tonight and tomorrow who have no interest in football at all. Some Celtics fans might boo Drew because he’s a Rangers fan but that’s probably about it. Plus there is bound to be fans flying in from the rest of the U.K. & Europe as well.
No way I would buy that Clash at the Castle Rangers shirt if I was in Glasgow though. Well I might have but wouldn’t wear it around Glasgow.

Nope
Guys like Kevin Bridges are big well-known Celtic fans and he’s well loved by the vast majority of the population and I’m sure anyone who doesn’t it’s not to do with his team so I doubt anyone is booing Drew for that
The sort of idiots who sign sectarian songs I doubt are going to even show up at the events much less try to get a chant going
Finally, the whole shirt thing. I made a joke when it came out about how the WWE was trying to start a rumble but jokes aside, wearing football colours is quite common and we manage to avoid daily riots in Glasgow so I don’t see how a wrestling rip-off is likely to cause any issues unless someone happens to wear it a Celtic game in the future but that ain’t happening

I mean, it's literally just a Rangers shirt. I could genuinely see an uninformed wrestling fan wearing that and trying to walk into a pub. Yeah... my first thought when I saw that was wondering if WWE was doing some kind of promotion with Rangers.

Sash at the castle?
It’s very unlikely. I think the kind of people who sing sectarian songs at Parkhead and Ibrox are not the kind of people who turn up to a wrestling show wearing a replica belt. They also are more likely to be watching the Euros tonight.
The whole crowd won’t be from Glasgow, and I honestly think the top is just a bit of tongue in cheek that Drew had a hand in for a wind up. As for the man going to to visit the ground of his favourite football team because he was invited - why shouldn’t he?
I don’t think it’s something that needs to be taken so seriously - let’s just enjoy our fake sports and not bring the same knuckle dragging nonsense that spoils football in this country into it. Drew supports a team just like everyone else (who likes football) and shouldn’t have to hide it.

Drew is a Jock born and raised so he knows better than to make a sectarian gaffe like Paul Gascoigne did when he signed for Rangers. That shirt is stupid because you've instantly ruled out sales from 50% of the city (probably more bc Celtic have been on top for years now so most non-religious Glaswegians will support them as well as the Catholic/Irish diaspora community). No one with the slightest affection for Celtic is going to buy that shirt, they can't, it would be social suicide!
Even if you hate football/team sports wearing that shirt is a statement that says to non wrestling fans that you are sympathetic to Rangers, and fair or not that does have a few implications.

Although the shirt does remind me of the funny gaffe by a K-Pop group who did a gig in Dallas and management got the girls to wear what they thought were Texas Rangers shirts. Something got lost in translation I reckon. Still, Korea is a pretty protestant country (seriously the first thing you notice when you drive into Seoul from the airport if you've landed at night are the churches because they light the crosses up in neon red for some reason) so I guess it all works out.

Whilst it was never going to be an issue at the show itself (which was great) I do have a bit of a depressing story about the train back home in Glasgow.
There was a guy in a celtic top with his two kids also in full kit. They were playing wee wrestling matches on the seats then the dad shouts to the whole carriage: “who wants to challenge me”. A guy in a rangers top stands up. At this point I - and many others - reminded them this night was about wrestling not football and implored them to sit down.
At this point the Celtic fan shouts at him: “wrestling is fake just like your club”. The rangers fan goes “a bit like your nine in a row - and very like you lot to be starting them young.” The only thing that stopped a full blown fight on the train was they both got off at Glasgow Central. Who knows what happened from there.
Who tries to start a fight over football? Who tries to start a fight with their kids right there?! Who thinks it’s okay to fight a bloke who is with their two kids?! Absolute scum.
I didn’t see a Celtic fan. I saw a bad father. I didn’t see a Rangers fan, I saw a bad person.
So, in a second answer to the original post (I was a bit too dismissive in my original one), whilst I still think Drew going to Ibrox and openly being a Rangers fan is entirely his business, I don’t think wwe should use that as a plot point or Punk should be wearing Celtic gear to troll him. The old firm rivalry is just too toxic in this city, and morons will just use it as an excuse to pick fights on trains.

Wrestling is fake. And if a guy wearing a sports jersey from the wrong team is enough to cause a riot then maybe that's not a place that should be getting wrestling showS. WWE is literally an American company. Let's not start asking tough questions about ethnic tensions, huh?
