Am I reading that right? 6 picks including 4 unprotected 1sts + an unprotected pick swap? Will have to see what those picks actually are, but damn that's a lot of picks for Bridges.

I'm of two minds. It seems way too much, but except for the lottery, I don't take much stock into the NBA draft. Even without a championship, the Knicks seem to be in good shape where they won't have an early draft pick for a little while.

Something like 4% of non lottery 1st round picks end up making at least 1 all star game,so 1st in and of themselves are not as valuable as some teams value them. That said 1 of those first is in 2031 when Brunson/Bridges and Randle will be way past the end of their prime, they probably should have opted to keep 1 of 29 or 31 picks and tried to give the Nets both of these years 1st rounders in the 20's.

That's an insane overpay, I get Bridges is good, but they're trying to go all in and I think that's a bit too much for their prospects
Might dare the Sixers to do something though.

Man the NBA trade market is so broken. 4 unprotected firsts for Bridges!? I like Bridges but the man is clearly more of a #3 guy then a #1. I know this is Brunson's team now but I had hoped they'd use their draft stock to get batman to Brunson's superman you know what I mean but instead it's like they got Jimmy Olson, nice guy fits great with superman but lacks the splash and wow to make me excited

I mean the Knicks finished second I. The East but 14 games behind Boston. I’m not sure Bridges moves the needle in any significant manner to change that

According to Woj, the unprotected 1sts from the Knicks will be 2025, 27, 29, and 31. Those 2029 and 2031 picks might be game changers for the Nets as Brunson will be age 33-35 by then, and the new CBA makes it very difficult for teams to have multiple max players on a team. That next Brunson extension is going to be massive, which will limit their flexibility.
In a way the Knicks had to make a move now. Brunson will have to be extended after next season, and their core group is in their late 20s with Thibs minutes on their bodies, so you have to strike now rather than wait. They should have aimed higher than Bridges but Mitchell probably staying with the Cavs and guys like PG have their own risks (age, injury). So I understand why the Knicks went all in now. This is Brunson’s team. They surrounded him with defense and shooting. Let’s see how far that can take them. Having a player on Brunson’s caliber still in his prime is something you have to take advantage of.

Perhaps it's because the expectation is that this is the worst Draft class in a quarter-century, perhaps it's because the NBA season ended only nine days ago, but the NBA Draft is this evening and no one seems to care.
However, I must admit that I'm finding this to be a very intriguing and fascinating night. Not because I expect any of the draft picks to be gamechangers in 2024-25, but because this is the first NBA Draft since maybe 2013 where there's absolutely no consensus on the first handful of picks. Nobody knows who is going no. 1, nobody has any clue how the draft board will shake out after Atlanta selects first, it's going to just be a night of chaos in draft rooms around the country.
And tonight will be significantly more watchable than tomorrow's coverage of the second round, which I presume will be The Bronny James Show, dedicated solely to when will Bronny get drafted, where will Bronny get drafted, what will Bronny's impact be next season, and what will this mean for LeBron James?

I think this was a great move to make for both the Knicks and Nets. Bridges is a great player and the Knicks were sitting on this treasure trove of picks for a trade like this. Nets are also in major need of picks for a long-term rebuild after the disaster that was the Kyrie, KD, and Harden era. Those picks outside of '29 and '31 likely weren't going to mean much for the Knicks anyway. Bridges also wanted to come here, which helps a lot.
And most importantly, the guy's a gamer. Hasn't missed a single game since being drafted. Doesn't get injured (*knock on wood*). Doesn't do load management.

The big thing about the Mikal trade to me is that The Knicks still have a decent amount of picks regardless

i'm of the mind that its still a shitload of picks but to the last point, this guy actually gets pissed off when he is ran into the ground. part of the reason he's probably not a Net any longer is because of him being like f*** your load management
