Game Informer was pretty much the only video game magazine I read in the 2000s

I only got it for the discount in 2008. Flippedd thru each issue once before trashing them.

Game mags just changed so much from when it was mostly Arcade reviews and people bitching about how nerfed 2600 Galaxian was.

Honestly, I always held a grudge in college against Game Informer because I was deep into a pretty heavy JRPG phase, and that was *not* a genre that they were kind to. Most of the complaints from the staff were how heavily the lore of the games leaned into common anime tropes, and I was always thinking “well WTF do you expect or even *want*? Do you not know what the god damn ‘J’ means?”

Sucks for anyone to lose employment that way, more importantly.

I would love to get my hands on Atari 2600 era mags just to see how people wrote about these games at the time. That and to read letters to the editor about Earthworld.

I have seen scans of Atari Age,the Atari published mag. But not many of non-corporation ran mags from that era.

Urgh, I was afraid they would start doing this.

Thankfully, MinnMax's community is apparently backing up the YouTube channel & old podcasts, so the majority of the important video stuff will be archived. You miss the community comments there and the posts on the site, but at least it'll be saved. However, there's articles, images, and videos that never made it over to YouTube, or have lower-quality uploads from fans. I immediately tried to save this cool set of images on the GI site of this couple visiting the office and making a Tail of the Sun cake for the Replay crew, but Google only has the lower-res thumbnail versions of the photos. I think I saved them a decade ago, but I don't remember for sure - hopefully Wayback will help. EDIT: Got it!

I get that there's money in hosting content for a unique website, but giving us (and the staff most importantly!) no notice AND not allowing us to even access the site anymore is actively an asshole move from Gamestop. Here's hoping they just leave the YT channel alone since it's on Google's expense, but I'm sure they'll use the excuse of 'security risks' and 'properly sunsetting' within the next few months.

As someone pointed out, Game Informer were getting exclusive access to Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a game that at minimum is coming out in two months time, so all the interviews with the team, the previews, the likely first review of the game to go out etc is basically all gone.

I'm not one to root for EA in any context but that's surely some kind of breach of contract on their end?

If not a breach, it has to make the contract null and void. Right?

Gamestop is such a garbage company and the only reason I still go there is because the people who work at the closest one are great. If they were gone or if that store ever closed, I'd wash my hands of them outright.

I love the foresight of this! This just came out today but was recorded 5 months ago in March. It features some of the old guard at GI (Ben Hanson, Leo Vader, Dan Ryckert) checking out the historical game stuff in the abandoned new office. I want those Mega Man X stickers and that Snake statue...



Lots of sealed, rare, and pretty mint games & consoles in that game vault. Apparently, they're not sure what is going to happen to all that stuff.
