I usually dip out of topics that get heated now for the most part instead of adding fuel to the fire. Unless a post is so mind numbingly offensive that it has to be addressed.

I find it quite ironic to be accusing the forum as a whole of being the fun police when this thread is trying to explicitly police what people are talking about. I agree that this forum used to be more fun. You know what else was more fun? Being less aware of how horrible the world was, how much horrible shit was going on it, and not knowing what Covid-19 was. Another hallmark of when this forum was 'more fun,' and I've been lurking since 2006 or so, was that transphobia was fine, homophobia and racism were way more tolerated (this is not an accusation at the mods, it was a different time and I sure as shit had different perspectives on what qualified as homophobia or racism at the time), female wrestlers were openly treated as pieces of meat in multiple threads. I for one am very pleased that we don't have as much of any of that shit any more. As far as the discussion topics being what they are, well. I've got bad news for you there, mate. First of all, if a thread about Logan Paul can't proceed with usual discussion without transphobia being brought up, well, I'm afraid that you have Logan Paul to blame for that shit. You don't get to decide what people talk about, and if it's in the news, well, I'm afraid this is a discussion forum so that kind of shit will get discussed. That's how it works. Second of all - I am one of the people who will often bring up stuff like a wrestler being a gross creep or whatever in a thread, or talk about the wider issues of, for example, the lack of equity for non-male wrestlers in the industry as a whole. Some people, cjb in particular, may remember me going on pretty endlessly in the AEW section about the women's division not getting enough time, or the lack of non-white people in the main events, and what I eventually realised was that it just wasn't worth talking about any more because AEW weren't going to do anything about it and we were just arguing and going back and forth and nobody was changing their minds. So you know what I did? I left the threads.I used to be someone who would be all in on a thread about a serious topic to do with some grim news story, and what I realised was that I just. Didn't actually need to pollute my mind with that stuff. If a thread is obviously about something you don't find fun and don't want to talk about, don't click on the thread. If you are enjoying a thread, but then the discussion goes in a different direction, you can both 1. reply to the thread without commenting on the controversy at all which people do all the f***ing time, 2. just stop going into that thread. I will admit this takes a strong degree of self control and I fail this test myself a lot of the time. But it's absolutely doable. You also can be like me or Moth or Doo Doo or countless others on here who can actually do some amount of shitposting even within a serious thread so that it doesn't take on too much of a suffocatingly serious tone. These things are not mutually exclusive. The forum is different now. Guess what. Reality is different now. When I first joined this place I was a regular on about 20 forums, and this is the only one that is still open, never mind that I actually log into. I will grieve for a long time if this place ever closes, because it is a safehaven for me, and it being full of 'fun police' is part of what makes it a safehaven for someone like me. Nobody forces you to log on. Nobody forces you to reply. Nobody forces you to discuss. Nobody forces you to click on any thread. The block function exists. Administrate your own life, don't blame other people for ruining your 'fun.' I'm sorry, Or I'm happy for you. idk I'm not reading that.

Cake is bad and you're a bad person for liking it. That sounds like French revolutionary talk. Can the fun police check Uggles for a hidden guillotine? There are absolutely some threads on here that I don't go near because I don't like the vibe of them. Some of the critique threads get unnecessarily mean instead of being critical but funny, for example. But you make of the forum what you want to. If a thread isn't fun to you, then stop reading it. I think that racism/homophobia/transphobia etc should be called out and dealt with but if you find a thread not fun or just an absolute chore to read then exit and don't look back (until it turns into food talk) Sometimes (but not always), I won't go in a thread if I think it's going to be "too heavy", but I will admit that I feel bad about it, because I always hear a voice say "Don't think we're not taking notice of who hasn't said anything..." in the back of my head. While I get that mode of thought in the real world, we're online in a forum that for most of us is meant to be an escape from whatever we need to escape from in the real world. Speaking up takes energy and it's not always worth the expenditure to call out an anonymous person on the internet. I'm not saying don't do it. I've definitely done it at times. Sometimes though, the energy isn't there and I nope out of a thread. I'm a supervisor who works long night shifts. I deal with conflict on a daily basis and frequently have to mediate conflicts. If I'm here and something seems heavy or frustrating, I will often just not engage, maybe not even open the thread. Others may think less of me for that, but so be it. This is an escape. Plus, the mods largely do a fantastic job. I have left other websites that have really gone down the drain. Here, there are a lot of great people.
It can be tough, but if you don't have the energy or desire to deal with shit you see in an anonymous online forum, silence that voice (which can be tough) and find a thread that you do enjoy. Apologies for the soapbox moment.

I'm not much the callout type myself, I don't feel like I have any authority to tell people what to do with their lives, even if they're not good people. It's more that I think the act of not being a callout type makes me ripe to _be_ called out.

This is why I usually just shitpost in the live threads, I try and remind myself that most of wrestling's foundation is the opposite of my stance on things and that can be uncomfortable with people like Logan Paul on the show. But at the end of the day most of the world is ugly and scary and I use it to unwind and have some fun because at the end of the day it is mostly a show aimed at kids and I'm pushing 40. People who haven't been here a long time (good lord I went and looked and I've been here 19 years!) don't really understand how not fun this place used to be in general although I do kind of miss having a ridiculous efed here that got so bad it actually was shut down.

The spirit of the old board went with RD and Co. after the FAN-Wrestlecrap split. And the spirit was that of a f***ing cesspool. That split was the best thing to ever happen to this board in hindsight.

Yeah, same here. My level of energy for "SERIOUS DISCOURSE" is at an all time low right now, so anymore I'm just trying to bring "silly little guy" vibes. I read the more serious topics, but I know there are folks around here that are more willing and able to coherently write a point I agree with, so I leave it to them and just like their post when I see it. *shrug*
