I'm disappointed by this. With the Franklin badge Friday I was hoping for a Mr. Banana Grabber unveiling today.

So the newest character is a generic Pokemon trainer? THey should've just made it Ash with the ability to fight. Everyone wants to kick the crap out of him right? That IS Ash, if you remember at the beginning of the original games, you could name your character and that happened to be one of the names you could choose from automatically (if you had the Blue version then you couldn't and had to be Gary, but was the same character as in the Red version). Ash was just the stupid name that the cartoon gave the guy. I'm glad they didn't call him Ash and hopefully he doesn't have his voice.

Well....Pokemon Trainer certainly is....interesting....and unique. I guess this means Squirtle, Charizard, and Ivysaur won't be standard Pokeball Pokemon this time around, as they are playable characters now.

I wonder what his assist trophy is?
I hope it is Team Rocket. Also, I hope his final smash is something like all the gym leaders from Pokemon Blue and Red come out and release their strongest Pokemon(like Brock uses Onyx, Misty uses Starme, Lt. Surge uses Raichu, etc), and they each do their strongest move.

Because I've never owned a Smash Bros game myself (I'm probably getting this one, though), I have no idea what an assist trophy is... but I certainly want to see Team Rocket in the game in some form.

The Assist Trophy in Smash Bros. Brawl is similar to the Pokeball in other Smash Bros. games. For those not in the know, the Pokeball is an item that, when thrown, will release a random Pokemon to give a quick attack on your opponents (Everything from Mewtwo who would unleash his coin frenzy or a Magikarp who would flop around and do nothing)... The Assist Trophy is the same concept, but instead of just Pokemon, it stretches to all Nintendo franchises (Samurai Goro from F-Zero, Hammer Bros. from Mario 3, etc.).
To expand on it a little more, trophies were collected in Melee just as another unlockable (Just an in-game figurine based on various Nintendo properties, everything from characters to items to vehicles), but they were merely for show. I don't know if the Assist Trophy is based on the trophies you've collected, but the item would bring in a lot of characters to the Smash Bros. game that couldn't make it in as fully-fleshed out characters.

Assist Trophies are a new type of item in Smash Bros Brawl. Basically, each character has one. What it is, is, the character throws the trophy, and a being(specific to their game) pops up, and unleashes hell.
The Assist Trophy characters are indestructable, and leave after a certain time period.
There are, however, a few generalized Assist Trophies, like Dr. Wright. The only known Assist Trophies right now are:
- Samurai Goroh(Captain Falcon's assist trophy) - Knuckle Joe(Kirby's assist trophy) - Hammer Bros(Most likely Mario's, Luigi's, and Peach's assist trophy) - Dr. Wright(just a general one) - Nintendog(general one as well)

It just belngs to the same franchise as them. The website said "you don't know what is inside it until you use it". They never said anything about only Mario(and Peach/Bowser) being able to use Mario characters or anything like that. Obviously there will be assists from every franchise that has a playable character, that only makes sense. There will almost surely be several from each franchise.

That is not what is implied by you saying "What it is, is, the character throws the trophy, and a being(specific to their game) pops up,"

Thanks Hades.
Very interesting idea. This might make it tricy on the edges, like in the old SMB levels in the past games, everyone jamming the ends of the levels trying to rob some easy kills.

I hope we get Devil World on Virtual Console. Politically correct 80s NOA kept it from us way back when.
