Well that's not really a concept album though. Not compared to the other ones, at least.

That would be very interesting Jed. I'd pay double to hear an Al concept album.

I think that Green Day's "American Idiot" is one of the best ever, and not just because it came out in the past few years. It's definitely the best album of this decade so far.

A concept album about Harvey The Wonder Hamster would never work. What does he doe? He doesn't bite, he doesn't squeal ... he just runs around on his hamster wheel. Hardly enough material for 45-60 minutes of album. ;D Jed Shaffer ~Something like Albuquerque, only an hour long. Something just totally insane and off the wall. A million random concepts. Like UHF, only for the ears.

Pink Floyd - "The Final Cut" FINAL CUT over DSOTM and THE WALL? Wow. I won't argue that DSOTM has the better music, or that The Wall is more dynamic and immediately accessible (and has slightly better music). They're both fantastic ****-minimum albums. But, comparing Final Cut to the two for the sake of concept vs. concept? DSOTM's concept is, at best, a loose one. "Things that make people go mad." Less of a concept and more of a theme, like The Division Bell's was communication. Clever, and makes for good music, but it's not a complete narrative by any stretch. Concept vs. concept ... DSOTM just can't fight the fight. It's like boxing vs. MMA. The Wall? Brilliant, no doubt. But the narrative is sometimes rather muddy, and the concept itself isn't as mature as Final Cut. The Wall is Roger Waters whining for an hour and a half about being a big rock star and no one understanding him or his music. Final Cut is a poignant reflection on the scars of war left on those who didn't fight it, and the likely destination for the human race if the tendency to rush to war doesn't stop. Many ... and, judging by sales figures, most everyone ... would disagree. That's cool. I prefer the sum of the parts of the other two to Final Cut ... but the whole package? Let me just put this way ... the other two are cool albums, but I've never been in a war, and I don't know anybody who's lost someone in a war, and yet Final Cut can make me legitimately cry. That right there is enough for me to give Final Cut the nod over the other two; the whole of the album is just too strong to ignore for me. Jed Shaffer ~"Ashes & diamonds ... foe & friend ... we were all equal in the end." That's poetry right there.

I think while THE FINAL CUT is a good concept, its an uneven album, which finally picks up real steam in the 2nd half with "The Final Cut," "The Fletcher Memorial Home," and "Not Now John." Its a credit to Waters and everyone involved with TFC that the voted "worst" Pink Floyd album is still better than most people's best album. Anyway, you make a rather great point.
