So I got a job as a waiter at a restaurant
How many hours do most restaurants expect you to work for a part time job? Just wondering to any waiters out there.
And how much do you waiters make in a night?

So how much do you waiters make in a night? Depends on the type of place you work. When I was in college, I worked at a trendy bar and pulled in 120$ a night in tips (working 6 hours at 5 an hour). After that place got shut down for serving minors, I took a job at a "normal" bar, got paid 4$ an hour and would make 40$ in a 6 hour night in tips. That was a long time ago. It all depends on if you serve stingy people, rich people, ungrateful people etc....

Really depends. Don't expect to get an actual wage above minimum wage(my other employs 3 waitresses), so whatever that is where you are.
The rest is tips. If you are: Nice and a good waiter, there are some nights you can expect to take home more in tips than your actual wage.
It really depends on:
1)How busy the restaurant is. More customers=more tips. 2)How good of a waiter you are. You'll get more tips. 3)Is there a bar? Usually Wait Staff members give a small portion to the bartender(if there is one).
And sadly, waitresses usually get more tips than waiters(dirty old men like to tip). But you can still expect good tips if you're good, and not working in a ghost town.

Here in PA, waitstaff only get paid a little over $2/hr. plus tips. It's ridiculous how little some people tip. I think that if customers knew how little the waitstaff actually got paid, they'd tip a little better.
I bus tables at an Olive Garden and servers tip me depending on how much work I'm doing for them. It's recommended that they tip me 10% of their tips. Some tip me more, some tip me less. On a weeknight (M-Th) I'll get anywhere from $5-8 from each server. Weekend (Fri-Sun) I'll get anywhere from $8-15 per server. And that's for a 5 to 6 hour shift. I usually end up making $40-50 M-Th, $60 Friday and Sunday, and $80 on Saturday. Plus, I get paid 9 bucks an hour as well.

Yeah, most places let you take your tips home with you every day that you work.

I thought the title of the thread was "Walters Out There." I figured it would be a tale about some creepy guy named Walter who liked to watch people go to the bathroom.

There's also a little luck involved in who you happen to get stuck with. I wasn't a waiter per-say, but I did deliver for a while and some regulars would stiff you every time and some would let the tips flow.
Needless to say I made sure the tippers got their food ASAP, even if it came at the expense of the non-tippers having to wait longer.
