I still don't care for the Dr. Robotnik music from the first 2 Sonic's.

Rollergames was sorta there. I would probably pick out Bart Vs. the World.

i'll go with a modern game....blue dragon's boss music. the first time i heard it, i laughed. the second and third time i heard it, i did goofy dancing during the boss battles. fourth, fifth, and sixth times i sung along, making up my own lyrics to make it more bearable. seventh time on, i reached for the mute button.
the song just doesn't seem to fit, really...it's got music by that nobunsftersge guy who wrote the final fantasy music....which often sounds fairly classical and stuff.....then a boss fight comes by starting off with a 70's hairband-style scream. i'm still trying to figure out what exactly it's about.

Haha I just now listened to that song...I think it's awesome. Then again, it doesn't sound that much different from Nobuo's other boss battle themes...it's got that fast pace, electric organs, similar composition style...it just happens to have lyrics on top of it. In either case, I thought it was badass.

Revolution X, SNES version. Why the SNES version? They loop about 5 seconds of an Aerosmith song.

Not so much Boss music, but Flame Hynard from Megaman X7 was probably the most annoying boss musicy thing ever. you see, the boss would clone himself into 3 different bosses, but they all said like 3 words. so it sounded like BURN TO THE GROUND! BURN! BURN! BURN! BURN TO THE GROUND!

Operation C's, it's a remix of Contra's boss music gone horribly wrong.

Donkey Kong Country 3...just too minimalistic for me compared to their other songs. Hell, these normal stage songs that are more dramatic, which should not be the case.
Now, K. Rool's theme in that game is amazing, as it is in all the DKC games. If we did a best of boss music, their would be at least two of those near the top of my list.
Since we are talking about boss music, let me hit a song that is literally "Boss Music" in every sense.
Max 300 Super Max-Me-Mix...one of the worst DDR songs ever!
Xenia's theme from Goldeneye in the Jungle level was terrible too. At least it went back to silence when I killed her.
Super Mario Bros. 2 was pretty bad too, no matter what version you're playing.
SPEAKING OF Mario, Bowser's theme in 64 was pretty sweet, but the final Bowser song was annoying.
Grandia 2 had some bad moments in it's boss music. I can't think of the song but at one point this woman holds this really high and annoying note for a good 9 or 10 seconds, then later on holds it again while going flat...awesome game though, and actually a good soundtrack. Either it's amazing or it sucks big time though.

In either case, I thought it was badass. i think the lyrics is what kills it....i like the background music itself, 'cause as you said, it is a lot like the fellow's other work, which is usually grand...but golly, that singing gets annoying......not as annoying as marumaru, mind you, but it still gets up there on the annoying meter...well, if i had an annoying meter, anyway.
