Most of the Mac's at the university have Safari, Firefox, and Netscape on it. I used to get upset if I had to use a computer that did not have Netscape, but I now never use it. Guess that trend will continue. It makes me a little sad.

The only reason I stopped using Netscape is because the program got corrupted somehow on my old comp (either the last one or two comps ago, I forget.) Damn thing wouldn't even open anymore without crashing. So I just got used to IE eventually.

what are you guys talking about?! according to my schools computer class booklet, internet explorer and netscape are the top 2 browsers!
they should really update those things, especially when you have to do worksheets from the booklet......

Isn't Netscape the main browser for Mac's? No, Safari is. Poor, poor Netscape. R.I.P. Interesting fact, AOL was originally conceived as the internet thingy for the Mac, Apple didn't like it and dropped it. The people who made it released it on an unsuspecting populous. Ironically, while AOL has always and will always suck ass, the Mac version is the best version. ...perhaps it's not that ironic, since it IS the Mac version. More like "just as it is with everything."

Actually, although Safari is a good browser, I always keep IE handy, as there are sites that just won't open in Safari.

We have one at my school which in an attempt to demonstrate online gaming they show you a MUD. With the caption "GAmes online have tremendous graphics". Never liked Netscape as soon as safari came out I switched. I really prefer Safari to all other web browsers. The only good thing that sets Firefox apart from the others is the custom aps you can download.

Wanna hear the backwoods stupidity of small town Iowa? I used to work for the community college I graduated from as a web designer -- basically spent a couple of years updating pages, and working on integrating a new design. Of course, I wasn't in charge of actually designing the thing, I had to follow this other guy's wishes. Now mind you, this was around 2003-2004, when Netscape's newest version was around 6 or 7. Many coding issues worked just fine with the newer versions of IE, and Firefox's first go-round, and even the newest versions of Netscape. But they wouldn't work with Netscape 4.7. Netscape 4. Because, and I quote, "much of our staff still uses that browser and we need to make sure these pages work for them."
So because some people were lazy and/or stupid enough not to update their browser, I had to pull back and find more complicated ways to make some things work.. or just give up on really good design ideas. For this reason, Netscape can die a horrible, painful, gut-wrenching death.
Really early Netscape, though, that was my first foray into the internet as well. Early ESPNnet, and looking up porn on my high school's computers. Actually printing porn on the laserjet printers and running off with it. Oh, those were the days.

My first web browser too Funny to read how Microsoft gave their own browser away "for free" as part of the (not exactly free or cheap) Windows o.s.

I only used Netscape a few times from around 1997-1999 at my public library at home. It was really nothing special, and it also quite well confused me to no end.
Buh-bye Netspace. I won't miss you a bit.
