I'm admin at a Zelda RPG so while I don't really care for the argument I have to follow it. LoZ and Zelda II come after LttP. The earliest game on the time line is either OoT or Minish Cap. Then there's a time split that occurs at the end of OoT and there's two storylines. It's all so complicated and honestly, I don't think there was ever intended to be a straight plotline. If there was it got screwed over once OoT hit big. Who knows? Maybe Nintendo intended it to be like in Windwaker with each game not connected to another game in the series featuring a new Link, a new legend. I don't really know, all I know is Shigeru Miyamoto came up with the first game after remembering exploring the woods and caves around his childhood home. How he ran into goblins, orc, faeries, octorocks, and a giant evil pig named Ganon, I don't know. My guess, same way he ran into an evil dragon and mushrooms that make you grow into unusual size...

Isn't there a You Tube series that details the Zelda timeline? BTW, I'll go with Ocarina of Time because it's just so fun to play. And personally, I hated the Shadow Temple more than the Water Temple. If you died and forgot to set up the temple save point power (forgot what it was), then you had to go through the whole damn thing. Every other temple had a center room and everything went off that. The Shadow Temple was just room after room. Plus on my low-def TV, I could barely see crap in it. EDIT: Here's the timeline

Isn't there a You Tube series that details the Zelda timeline? Gametrailers did a thing on it, yeah. But there's a huge debate on where the games actually lie. They only said what they think makes the best sense.

I had an idea that would throw the ultimate monkey wrench and screw up all the timeline theories:
Basically, the Triforce also serves to seal away an evil even greater than Gannon. The enemy has a curse that in palce that that Gannon is destinied to be reborn or released again. Once he is defeated, the seal breaks, and then to reseal the the bigger evil. As a counter, the Goddesses (from OoT) use Gannon's defeat as a trigger to have time reset, forever cursing Hyrule to be reset again and again.
Building on this premise, Gannon manages to escape, which prevents time from resetting, but the big evil still escapes and he possesses Link. Now Zelda has to her eternal damsel-in-distress butt and save Hyrule for once (it's her Legend after all).
Anyway, that's my (terrible) idea. As for the actual topic, I don't know. I still regularly go back to the first NES ones very often.
And blue Wizzrobes are still among the most evil of all video game creations EVER.

TP follows OoT, but there are some inconsistancy's. Like there are no Gerudo, but the land looks very similar to OoT Hyrule. I don't know where it would exactly place. At my Zelda site for the sake of sanity we just proclaimed it's 100 years after OoT.

It's not a theory, it was stated as such by Miyamoto and Aonuma in an interview with IGN. If it's changed it was their decision. The theory lies in where the games fit.

Majora's Mask. I think if you take that and OoT together as just stand alone works it's the more fun game.

this makes me want to bust out all my zelda games again, but im awful at all of them =(
If it wasnt for spending sooo much time on the ocean doing SFA, id give windwaker the win on this. Its one of the most beautiful and engaging games ive ever played, it proper dragged me in.
thinking about it i believe my favourite in the series to be links awakening, it was the first one i played and was by far the greatest gameboy game ever, well its kinda equal with pokemon, but both games are sooo much better than anything else on that system

i know it's kind of early to say since it hasn't really been around long enough to stand the test of time, but i loved twilight princess...and i'm still trying to decide which one i like more; twilight princess or ocarina of time. i'm still not really sure...but since twilight princess didn't have any votes, i threw mine on 'er.

Ocarina of Time is, in my opinion, the greatest game of all time. Yeah it's 3D LTTP, but it's way better.
