I don't see why England rejected the chance to join. They've missed a good opportunity.

Good news. Will be good to see Scotland, Wales and ROI at fortress Windsor in 2009! Well, obviously not all 3 of them will come in 2009 due to the rotation but you catch my drift.

Was it Barwick's decision to reject the chance to take part? Or was it a 'collective decision'? Either way, the FA board have again shown that they are totally unqualified for their jobs. Damn, it would have been great to have been a part of a 'Home Internationals' tournament next summer. What the hell are they gonna do instead?

It'd have been fun having an alternative Euro 2008 with some of the "noble casualties" of the qualifiers.

England should do an Asian tour instead.
Far more money in it.

England should do an Asian tour instead. Far more money in it. That maybe true, but think of the money they would make by playing any of the home nations at Wembley. Any kind of match between England and Scotland would easily sell out Wembley. And when was the last time England played the Republic (not counting that match that got abandoned due to crowd trouble)? Tickets for that would be red-hot.

Finally, common sense by referees - the ref gave a penalty to Sevilla for handball against Senderos, but the linesman saw it hit his chest, and overruled him, so no penalty.

On the Home Internationals, I don't blame England for turning it down. At the end of the day, they have more to lose than they have to gain by playing.
If they beat any of the teams, so what, they beat teams they are expected to beat. If they lose to any of them, the media would rag on them (unusual eh?).

I spoke too soon on the referee - he couldn't wait to give that penalty at the end of the game, and he wouldn't give Wenger a reason why he sent him off, other than Wenger having perfectly reasonable complaints about the officiating.

I'm really loath to criticise referees these days. They're human, they make mistakes. Moments like that Chelsea stampede when Essien got send off on Saturday have to stop too. Just awful to watch.

It does get over the top sometimes, but it's deserved when the referee, feeling a grudge after a linesman corrects him over a dodgy decision, has it in his mind to screw a team later on for something absolutely minor.

I didn't see the game, but if that's what happened then I agree. That's not on. But I really feel a rule about only the Captain talking to the referee- or something like that- needs to be brought in. Any time a decision goes against teams like Chelsea they lose the plot. Terry was grabbing the ref's card against Man United earlier this season, and they went loopy against Derby. Needs to be sorted. On another note, Mourinho says he is willing to talk to the FA about the England job. Hmmm... news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/internationals/7116283.stm

I was waiting for it to happen when I read it a few hours ago I was saddened but not surprised I'd be pissed but Walter Smith did the same in January to take charge of Rangers so I'd be a hypocrite to complain As for Rangers tonight, good performance, shame we lost but a draw against Lyon and we're through and since we've beat Stuggart @ Home, Drew w/ Barca @ Home and beat Lyon away I'm confident we can do at least that Also, get Billy Davies as Scotland manager I say, he got a raw deal with Derby (WTF were they thinking honestly, get some goddamn perspective guys) and I think he'd do well Better than that diddy Souness anyway

Not only is McLeish the new Birmingham manager, but Paul Jewell is also the new Derby manager.
