Liverpool march on!!!! Yeah!!!!! Hopefully Man Utd and Chavsea will lose or draw tomorrow. As far as the Champions League goes, the best format I think would be as following. Champions and runners up of leagues go into the European Cup. Third and fourth placed teams go into the UEFA Cup. All cup winners go into the Cup Winners Cup. The UEFA cup has been watered down so badly these years I think it's a joke. Your idea would work, along with getting rid of the stupid rule that loosing teams in the the 3rd qualifying round AND 3rd place teams in the CL group stage drop down into it. Personally, If Liverpool don't get a top 2 spot in the Champions League group, I would rather we would come last. The UEFA cup has become in my eyes, the 'Loser's Cup' The UEFA cup is for teams with no European pedigree, like Wisła Kraków, Crvena Zvezda, Dinamo Zagreb and Everton.

The UEFA cup is for teams with no European pedigree Crvena Zvezda, Would that be the same Crvena Zvezda that in 1991 won the European Champions Cup aka what the Champions League used to be called before it was reformatted Just so I know we're talking about the same one

Minus stars like Mihajlovic, Jugovic, Savicevic and Pancev [ok, he sucked balls after he left Belgrade]. UEFA Cup was never supposed to be a "winners' cup" anyway... more like a "midcard cup" (to use a wrestling reference). On the other hand, the "Top Countries" getting spots in the Champions League regardless of their past history makes little sense. AS Roma are perennial underachievers, ditto for most German and French sides, yet they get a better seeding than "regular" UCL teams from minor countries. Not to mention Chievo Verona and Udinese getting straight away to 3rd qualifying round...

But yeah, they are Red star Belgrade...the !st team to beat Liverpool at Anfield in the European Cup. They had lost twice at home in the UEFA cup tho...a cookie for who can tell me who?

Aris and Bayern.
(of course I had to check... Don't follow the UEFA Cup)
BTW, the group stages formula is awful for the early stage of such competition...

No problemo Judge Fudge.
I should have done my research....my strive to take shots at that little little team in blue came before what was an obvious oversight in my research!

Anyone know why Fergie won't talk to the BBC? I know Allardyce and Redknapp won't because of the BBC documentary that accused them of trying to poach youth players, but Fergie? And for the record, I think that the system of the 3rd place team in the Champions League group stages going into the UEFA Cup is a joke. And if Liverpool finish 3rd and get into the UEFA it still won't change my opinion.

Two things - first, they said his agent son took bungs, and second, Fergie has a long running feud with Alan Green, mainly claiming that he and the BBC are biased towards Liverpool.

If Liverpool get into the UEFA, it will of course be disappointing, because we should be aiming at regaining the European Cup.
But if we won the UEFA Cup and qualified for the Champions League by the end of the season, I would feel happier.
Another suggestion I would make is that the new format for the European Cup and UEFA Cup (and CWC cup) I outlined would be straight knockout. Two legs, home and away all the way to the final. The current "group" format would be ditched.

God I hate the international break. Aggreed. And can anyone explain to me why England are playing a meaningless friendly against Austria tomorrow when we have a vital qualifier against Croatia on Wednesday.

Supposedly for "fitness" reasons. More to do with the money - and probably England's only trip to Austria in the forseeable future.

Oh my, I cannot wait for England to fail, it would make my year as a German living in England.
Also, I hope Scotland qualify. I'll be shouting support at my TV.
