I really thought they choked with Hakushi. I wasn't surprised, but I thoroughly annoyed, especially since by then the Great Muta had floated in and out of WCW/NWA as a headliner, the Pillman/Liger feud had created a lot of interest in smaller, more athletic wrestlers, and Sean Waltman and HBK were stars for Vince by that time, meaning that the small stigma should have been gone.

Anyone know what was going on, storyline-wise, with that Taker/Hakushi match? Why Hakushi came out in a casket, blood-stained gear, laid face-down on the mat for Taker's entire entrance, and was basically a rag doll until the dragon screw legwhip?
And Shinzaki's run in WWE was incredible. Even back then, I loved watching him wrestle. Soon as I got the Bret Hart DVD set, that was the first thing I watched (Hart/Hakushi).

Hakushi never would've gotten anywhere in the WWF; Vince has some sort of long standing prejudice against Japanese wrestlers. He wouldn't have gotten promoted any more than Tajiri was. Funny how Vince will promote a Samoan posing as a Japanese sumo (Yokozuna), but not actual Japanese wrestlers (Tajiri, Hakushi, Funaki, etc). I was wondering if I was just crazy, of if other people actually saw this. Vince really does seem to have something against Japanese wrestlers. I can't think of one that's gotten a legit main event push in forever. I think it might have something to do with them barely pushing 200lbs, while Yoko was over 400.
