just think of all the other guys in the history of wrestling who won non-title matches but didn't realize that they could win the title anyway

Dear God, all you need to hear are the first fifty seconds to know that something is terribly amiss.

Even Tony knew that, at best, it was a top-ten night. Maybe top five.

Just listen to Heenan in the first thirty seconds; his voice conveys the thoughts of a man thinking "Why God, oh WHY did I ever take this job?"

I'm gonna guess that this vid is from Russo's infamous first WCW booking, Halloween Havoc '99, and it's fantastic un-announced main event of Sting Vs. Goldberg in a Non-Title-Match-That's-Actually-For-The-Title Match. Let's see if I'm right... Edit: VICTORY!

Yeow. Just listen to Heenan - he'd lost the will to commentate by that point.
The match wasn't especially good, either, save for the series of Splashes that Sting was able to land toward the end of the match.
Am I the only one who thought it was cheap how quickly Goldberg landed a superkick IMMEDIATELY after being knocked down by Sting?

I remember ordering this PPV and wondering WTF happened there. Of course the next night, Goldberg was stripped of it as it turned out to be a non-title match that no one knew about, and was the beginning of the 32-man tourney (with Madusa in it).
I loved WCW, but this shit was awful.

WTF, why was this match so short? I hope there was a reason for it. 5 minutes for a world title match is bullshit.

And the scary thing is it was better than the 5 second World Title match Sting had with Hogan earlier in the night where Hogan laid down Man, i remember why I stopped watching WCW towards the end.

They had a title match before where Hogan just laid down? So does that mean that Hogan was champ. He had a match against Sting that was the main selling point of the ppv, like you would expect Hogan vs Sting to be. Hogan just laid down, Sting won the title and then challengened Goldberg to a non-title match that ended with Goldberg winning the title in 5 minutes that nobody expected and wasn't even possible since it was a non-title match.... Please someone tell me that it didn't happen that way.

I thought there was one for Jarrett Laying down for Hogan, you mean there was more than one "I'm just gonna lay down and you pin me k?" match in WCW's dying days?

That's why when you watch Jarrett lay down at Bash at the Beach you hear Scott Hudson say "Is this Halloween Havoc all over again?!".

What a mess. The crowd started booing when Sting jumped out of the ring, thinking that he was just stalling for heat, when he was just waiting for a ref. I loved WCW, but how can you forget to send a referee out for a match?

WCW after 1997 was bloody awful. Usually, the referee is the first guy in the ring. This time, he was in the back taking a piss or something. You gotta hand it to Sting though. He knew that he had to stall for time and managed to suck the crowd into what he was doing. You could see Sting looking around like "What the hell is going on here?" when there was no ref. He kept looking to the back lol. He just gave up and shouted "We need a ref!"
Here's what's really funny. Charles Robinson was attacked earlier in the night and was supposed to be selling it. He came out, at the last minute, looking like nothing happened. Gotta love WCW.

Tony's commentary at the beginning and the fact that there was no ref make this gold.
